What is the future of cinema? (And VFX, too)

Next week is the FMX 2021 conference. It's completely virtual (usually it's in Stuttgart). For the last couple of years I've run the 'Then & Now' track, which looks back at old-school developments in VFX while looking forward to new ones. This is important, because this year the speakers I've pulled together go deep on the future (by also looking at the past). Find out more below.

These speakers I mention are Doug Trumbull, Sheena Duggal and Shane Mahan. Each has spent decades in the industry, and each will talk about various states of play in their specialized area.

For example, you'll hear about Trumbull's desire to implement more immersive cinema via high frame rates and stereo. Visual effects supervisor Duggal shares clear and concise views on diversity and inclusion in VFX right now. And Mahan, from Legacy Effects, provides a commentary on where practical effects and digital effects combine at this time.

You can watch each of these speakers in dedicated sessions at FMX. Trumbull will also be part of a special Q&A session where you can ask questions directly. Find all the details at the FMX site, where you can buy tickets. Hope you will join me at the conference and hear from these amazing VFX legends! - Ian
