New Classes for Kara Tepe Camp

A safe and consistent space for Education was difficult for the residents of Moria, as previous locations we had set up were looted or burned. Unfortunately, the new location at Kara Tepe camp presented a host of new issues, one being space.

Stand By Me Lesvos has been working to find solutions in cooperation with the self-organized network, Moria Academia, and Greek NGO, Elix. We used the money left over from the Christmas Present Project to purchase two buses and transformed them into mobile classrooms. We are asking for funds to help keep this project going. Education is fundamental and we want to continue to offer a safe and secure place for people to grow and learn in dignity.

Some of the monthly costs associated with running the Education projects at camp are:
  • Stationary for 250 students 2000 Euro
  • Support of 15 teachers: 750 Euro
  • Transportation of supplies to the camp: 500 Euro

Until now, education was offered by our self-organised partner, Moria Academia, with the resources and space available, but this did not cover the demand.

We would like to thank the Office of Displaced Designers (ODD), Lowtech, and Solingen Hilft for their support and assistance, without them, this would not be possible.

World Earth Day: Moria White Helmet's Commitment to Environmental Protection

On April 22nd, the world celebrated World Earth day, which is something that Moria White Helmets honor everyday by ensuring that waste generated at the camp is collected and properly disposed of or recycled.

In 2020, they removed over 500 tons of waste.

Call of support to cover legal fees for our partners

In order to ensure that our partners receive the best legal advice and protection throughout this process, we now make a call for funds to cover the legal costs of supplying our partners with skilled Greek lawyers that can assist and guide our partners in the complex web of Greek and International laws and rights of this process.

To support this, simply visit https://standbymelesvos.gr/support-us/ and write ‘legal aid’ in the comment section or in the payment page contact form.

Thank you very much for all of your support!

Our Continued Support of the Local Greek Community with the Local Greek Community

We donated leftover diapers and feminine products from previous distributions to the local community in Lesvos to Iliaktida Amke, a Civil society actor that was created through the needs of the local community in Lesvos to support People with Disabilities and vulnerable population group, including women inside the camp and Greeks living in precarity in Mytilene.
