REGISTER FOR CLIA UPDATE

Hello <<First Name>>

As we continue to focus on the ongoing discussions with governments to open a pathway to resumption, CLIA Australasia will be running another Australasia Trade Partner Update Webinar on Wed 12 May at 11.00am AEST/1.00pm NZST to provide an update on the pathway to cruise resumption. If you are a CLIA member travel agent, we encourage you to participate to find out what is happening globally, the discussions we are having with governments locally here in our region, and how you can help. You can find more information below or register here.

It was a pleasure last week to join other industry representatives at the opening of the Eden Welcome Centre, by the Port Authority of New South Wales — a new maritime, cruise and tourist facility that heralds the beginning of a new era for tourism and cruise in Eden and the Sapphire Coast.
Officially opened by the NSW Minister for Transport, Andrew Constance, and Minister for Tourism, Stuart Ayres (pictured), together with the new cruise wharf, the Eden Welcome Centre reinforces the warm community welcome that locals offer passengers arriving by cruise ship. It was especially encouraging to hear Minister Ayres reiterate the important economic contribution and jobs that cruise tourism delivers to NSW, and that they look forward to welcoming cruise ships back when possible, both at the port of Eden, and at ports up and down the NSW coast.
It’s not too late to register for next week’s Ocean Debut Virtual Showcase. As we increasingly see more progress on cruise resumption around the world, this showcase offers the opportunity to learn more about 2021’s most exciting new ships joining the CLIA member fleet.

Running each weekday between Monday 10 and Friday 14 May 2021, the showcase will update travel agents members on the innovative features and designs guests can expect when they step on board, plus thanks to MSC Cruises, one lucky participant will win a 2022 MSC cruise. Agents can find out more information and register here.

Stay Safe,

Joel Katz
Managing Director, CLIA Australasia

COVID-19 UPDATE

Last week, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released further detail on the Conditional Sailing Order that has been in effect since October 2020, providing more clarification on progress to resumption, that could see cruising resume from U.S. ports in the upcoming northern summer. In a letter the CDC sent to industry, the agency stipulated that if cruise lines can demonstrate compliance with certain conditions including minimum passenger and crew vaccination levels, they can effectively fast forward their timelines.

We have also seen some announcements about restart activity in the Caribbean. Ships that might have been prevented from operating at U.S. homeports, for example, will offer cruises from Caribbean ports.

Following the successful resumption of cruising in Europe, the U.K.'s first cruises are due to set sail as soon as this month under the industry’s extensive health protocols, with the first ships to sail in British waters since the start of the pandemic planned to operate a series of domestic itineraries.

These sailings will provide further examples of the domestic-first resumption CLIA envisages for Australia and New Zealand, and will give cruise lines further opportunity to demonstrate the new global health protocols that underpin cruising’s revival. And we are lobbying hard to ensure Australian and New Zealand governments understand what is happening in other parts of the world.

Please register here for a Trade Partner Update on Wed 12 May at 11am, where we will provide an update on industry resumption globally, and the efforts to progress a similar carefully managed cruise restart here in Australia and New Zealand.

Get on board for our Ocean Debut Virtual Showcase

Monday 10 - Friday 14 May 2021

As the industry works to achieve resumption in destinations around the world, cruise lines are preparing to unveil a succession of spectacular new ships that will help re-energize cruising and offer exciting new experiences for guests.

To highlight the wealth of new cruise ships ready to launch and help drive our industry’s recovery, CLIA Australasia is launching its first-ever Ocean Debut Showcase, a week-long virtual event.

Running each weekday between Monday 10 and Friday 14 May 2021, the showcase will provide travel agents with valuable information about the latest ships and all their new features. Each ship will be profiled in detail, covering ship facts; dining, entertainment and accommodation options; public spaces; new innovative features and designs; and what type of experience guests can expect when they step on board.

Participants will earn three CLIA Accreditation points by completing a short post-event quiz for each cruise line presentation they attend live. In addition, there are five fabulous prize packs to be won, simply by collecting the codeword given during each live session.

PLUS – one lucky agent will win a 7 night MSC cruise for two guests in a balcony stateroom, for travel to any destination in 2022, with special thanks to MSC Cruises

To be in the running to win the cruise, please ensure you register for the presentation on MSC Virtuosa and MSC Seashore. You’ll need to tune in live, collect MSC’s codeword and answer every MSC Cruises quiz question correctly at the end of the presentation. Five bonus entries to the draw will be given to those who register and tune in live every day of the showcase between Monday 10th and Friday 14th May – to hear about all 19 featured ships that are scheduled to debut in 2021.
