Dry Year Update With much of the West experiencing drought conditions, last week Governor Gavin Newsom directed state agencies to take immediate action to bolster drought resilience and prepare for impacts if dry conditions continue. In addition, the Governor proclaimed a regional drought emergency for the Russian River watershed in Sonoma and Mendocino counties, where reservoirs are at record lows following two dry years. You may have heard about water restrictions in Marin, Santa Clara, and even our neighboring East Bay Municipal Utility District. What does this mean for Contra Costa Water District customers? We have invested in water supply reliability for many years. For more than 30 years, we have provided water conservation programs, and our customers have improved their water use efficiency, thereby extending our supply. During that same time, we built and expanded our Los Vaqueros reservoir, which provides both water quality improvements and improved supply reliability.
As a result of these investments, we expect to meet our customers' water needs and do not currently anticipate any drought reductions this year. We do, however, ask that you continue to use water efficiently. Need a refresher? Check out our evergreen water prohibitions that are in place to prevent waste and unreasonable use of water. To continue helping customers make the most of their water, see below for rebates and coupons to get you ready for summer.
