Hiya,

I hope everything is going well for you?

I'm running a poll on LinkedIn to get a sense for the most pressing cloud concerns - cost, compliance, capabilities, or something else. It'd be great if you could let me know your thoughts too - the poll is here, thanks !

I have to admit, it's been a busy month and I haven't been able to cover everything I was hoping to...but here are the links to the main bits I've not reached yet:

SAP results
IBM results
Oracle v Google <-- The Supreme Court found that Google CAN use Java API elements within Android

A quick reminder that June 30 2021 is the last date for creating/assigning Microsoft Software Assurance Training Vouchers. Any non-redeemed days will be removed on July 1st.

Have a good weekend and enjoy the bank holiday if you're in the UK!

Cheers
Rich

Microsoft acquire Nuance

Microsoft have spent almost $20 billion to acquire Nuance in a bid to strengthen their "Cloud for Healthcare" offering. With some Nuance products seeing adoption of 55-77% among healthcare providers, it looks like Microsoft have bought themselves a significant head start in making a success of this market. It further shows their diversification away from standalone on-premises software packages too.
Microsoft's announcement is here.

Microsoft Financial Results Q3 FY21

Microsoft's Q3 FY21 results were very impressive - but hey, what's new?!
Revenue was $41.7 billion - up 19% - with operating income up 31% to $17 billion...all in 3 months! Teams is now up to 145 million daily active users, almost doubled from last year, and Azure grew by 50% - again.
There was growth in all the expected areas - Office 365, Dynamics, Power Platform, LinkedIn, Azure and more. I've gone into more depth here.

IBM buy Turbonomic

IBM, on their stated journey to become a cloud and AI company, have acquired Turbonomic - an AI powered cloud management company - which seems like a good fit...I expected Microsoft to buy them a couple of years ago. The cloud management space is rife with acquisitions and this one surely won't be the last. See IBM's announcement here.

Microsoft Product Terms - April 2021

Another quiet month:
  • Updates to the CAL/ML equivalency tables for clarity
  • Updates to the Dynamics 365 purchasing minimums table
  • Updates to the Azure API clause to include Weather
I can't help but feel there's something big coming in FY22!
