DEMOCRATIC MEDIA FIRM J&Z STRATEGIES ADDS VICE PRESIDENT
Former Planned Parenthood Regional Campaigns Director and Past Executive Director at Democratic Association of Secretaries of State Christopher Guerrero Joins Award-Winning Democratic Media and Campaign Consulting Firm J&Z Strategies as Firm's Vice President

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Today, J&Z Strategies, an award-winning, California based Democratic media and campaign consulting firm announced that Christopher Guerrero, a seasoned campaign strategist, will be joining its team as Vice President. Guerrero brings 15 years of experience in issue-based advocacy, coalition building, and electoral campaigns. Most recently he served as Regional Campaigns Director for Planned Parenthood and as Executive Director for the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS).

"Christopher Guerrero brings a unique and dynamic breadth of experience to J&Z Strategies, " said Dave Jacobson and Mac Zilber, co-founders of the firm, in a joint statement. "As we continue to expand our efforts to advance progressive causes across California and the nation, we could not be more thrilled to have someone as politically talented, savvy, and driven as Christopher join our team as Vice President. Given Christopher's expansive skill set when it comes to candidate, independent expenditure and ballot measure campaigns, combined with the depth of his experience in issue advocacy efforts, we know he will be an invaluable senior member of the J&Z Strategies team."

Notably, Guerrero worked with Jacobson on the Hillary Clinton for President campaign in 2007-2008 and with both Zilber and Jacobson on the 2013 Los Angeles Mayor's race. Guerrero's addition to J&Z Strategies follows the firm's recent hire of Anca Matica last month, as an Associate, who comes to the firm after working on Oregon's largest ballot measure campaign of 2020.

J&Z Strategies' two new hires come on the heels of the firm's successful 2020-21 election cycle in which it played a role in 50 winning campaigns. The firm's efforts spanned from working on Super PACs in the U.S. Presidential contest as well as in the Arizona, Colorado and duo of Georgia U.S. Senate races, to a series of state legislative wins across New Mexico and California, as well as a number of ballot measures and local races.

In California in particular, the firm helped win the most closely-watched and expensive State Senate and State Assembly races, electing Senator Josh Newman and Assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer. Significantly, the firm also helped make history in three Mayoral races across California. J&Z Strategies produced media for independent expenditure campaigns that helped propel Todd Gloria to become the first openly LGBT Mayor of San Diego, and that helped propel Farrah Khan to become the first Muslim Mayor of Irvine. In Pasadena the J&Z Strategies team also helped guide Victor Gordo, the city's first Latino Mayor, to defeat the sitting incumbent Mayor.

Since its founding in July of 2016, J&Z Strategies has earned a total of 25 Pollie and Reed Awards, from the American Association of Political Consultants and Campaigns & Elections respectively, for television and digital ads. In less than five years, the firm has also played a role in over 100 winning campaigns across the United States.

About Christopher Guerrero:
As campaigns director for federal and state level independent expenditures, Guerrero provided expertise on state policy, legislative advocacy, budgetary and grant-related efforts, as well as internal capacity and organizational development for Planned Parenthood Federation of America (c3), Planned Parenthood Action Fund (c4), and Planned Parenthood Votes (PAC), working across eight west and southwestern states.

During his time at Planned Parenthood, Guerrero contributed to the success in defeating three U.S. Senate Republicans, the election of a Democratic governor in Nevada, turned Arizona blue in the 2020 presidential race, defeated the Proposition 115 Abortion Ban in Colorado, and repealed the antiquated abortion ban in New Mexico.

At the same time, Guerrero managed a $1.1 million dollar campaign effort to elect Democratic secretaries of state across the country in his capacity as director for the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS) under then-Chair, California Secretary of State Alex Padilla. This work included flipping a long-held Republican Secretary of State seat in Oregon. Following Secretary Padilla’s appointment to the United States Senate, Guerrero also worked as a part of the Senator-designate’s transition team and led the resume curation process and transition operations.

Prior to joining the Planned Parenthood and DASS teams, Guerrero helped Fortune 200 companies and grassroots organizations alike achieve their goals at the Ibarra Strategy Group, a government and public affairs firm specializing in Latino advocacy and outreach. There, he managed strategic partnerships and grants for Verizon, and built deep relationships with national Latino organizations like NCLR/Unidos US, LULAC, HACR, Voto Latino, The Latino Victory Project, and the Latino Leaders Network.

Guerrero has developed long-lasting relationships with national grassroots, political and elected leaders, through his time as the Latino Director at Ready for Hillary PAC, as a Member Consultant and Special Assistant to Speaker John A. Pérez in the California State Assembly, and as the Operations Director for the Los Angeles-based Wendy Greuel for Mayor campaign in 2012 and 2013.

Guerrero has deep roots in the California Democratic Party, having worked as the party's State Field Director and Deputy Political Director, where he assisted in the setup and execution of the statewide coordinated campaigns and voter registration campaigns where his team of staff, and volunteers registered thousands of new Democrats.

Guerrero's career in politics began in the 2007 Hillary for President campaign, where he rose from an intern, to Get Out The Caucus (GOTC) organizer in Iowa City, field organizer in Las Vegas, to single-handedly leading the student outreach program in Moorhead, MN going into Super Tuesday 2008.

Christopher Guerrero was born and raised in Los Angeles, and is a graduate of the University of California, Davis.
