Great Players and Kickers
Back in my youth (many decades ago!) my sport of choice, as a player, was Rugby. As such, England winning the World Cup in 2003 was a real highlight for me. Since that historic day, much has been written about the reasons for England’s success. However, when it came down to it, the pivotal moment came down to one man and his dedication to routine. The man was Jonny Wilkinson and it was his drop kick that eventually won the game and World Cup for England.
However, that one moment didn’t come out of the blue and was far from good luck or a one off. It came from an absolute focus, dedication and most of all routine. The ability, under pressure, to replicate something that he had done thousands of times before.
‘Great players and kickers are great because they've done fantastic amounts of great practise. Everything they have done since they started is there in the bank to be drawn upon.’
I think this dedication to routine can be transferred very easy to the success I see from many of our students on a regular basis. This success comes in many forms, not just academic. While we strive to make sure all students leave us after 5 years with academic success, those who develop strong personal routines perform the best in all aspects of school life, especially when the pressure is on.
As such, please can I ask you to emphasise this with your children, especially around attendance, punctuality, having the correct equipment for learning and wearing their uniform appropriately.
Enjoy the bank holiday weekend with your children.
Please encourage your son/daughter to use their SCHOOL EMAIL for work rather than their own private email. This is important for safeguarding and also some of our messages for students are being sent to school email addresses.
The first issue of a new Careers magazine, Make the Future Yours! has just been published. It is aimed at helping young people find a direction and assisting them make those all important decisions about their future.

Word of the Week:
Please see below for the ‘Word of the Week’. These words have specifically been chosen as they are both useful and sophisticated whilst encouraging challenge and extended vocabulary use. Please challenge your child (and yourself!) to use this week’s word as much as possible at home, in conversations, and in their work!
