Color group leaders needed for Camp Create

While volunteers have been stepping up to the plate for Camp Create, unfortunately, the area lacking is the one that could restrict the number of children who can participate this summer.

At Camp Create, children are divided into Color Groups based on their grades. Because each group can have as much as 30 kids (allowing around 180 total in past few camps), on average 6 adults are needed per group to ensure order, safety and a fun experience.

"Color Group leaders do not need to teach. We have the teachers for each of the areas," said Deana Cox, who has coordinated Camp Create the past 15 years. "Their job is two-fold - ensure that their group of children moves in an order fashion to each of the six stations throughout each day, and also, engage with the children while they are doing the activities and help them as needed." Think help get the glue open in arts and crafts, escort for a bathroom break, or simply sing and dance with them at the opening session.

Cox said that some of the youth have already signed up to assist in the Color Groups, but she still needs adults to be involved. "No one will be doing this on their own, but it does take a team to make it work and for us to be able to offer it to children without restrictions on how many."

Camp Create will be held June 7-11 from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. each day. If you're able to help with the Color Groups, email Deana Cox.
