Meditation of the Day:

Rogation Day by William Carlos Williams (1883-1963)

O let the seeds be planted
And the worry and unrest be invited!
Let that which is to come
of the weather and our own weakness be accepted!

Let work mate with fertility
The man and the soil join to produce a world,
A world of blade and blossom!
We Believe! We Believe
In the wonder of continuous revival,
The ritual of the farm.
This is our world

And this is our message to the world and to each other:
Let the seed be planted, the man
And the soil be ploughed equally
By the joy in the planting-
That the grass, the grasses that bear
The seed: oat, rye, and corn
And other yield
Speak their message of revival and thrive
By our labour tis Maytime.

Who shall reap the harvest?
To whom shall the praise be given?
No man-but all men together in love
And devotion. There is no other harvest
And no other praise!
O let the seeds be planted and the rain
And the sun and the moon add their wonder.

Rogation Days

“Rogation” comes from the Latin meaning “asking”. In the Roman Catholic Church, these days were devoted to special prayers for crops in the field. The Major Rogation originated as a Christian festival consisting of a procession from Rome to a place outside the city.  The Book of Common Prayer says, “Rogation Days are the three days preceding Ascension Day, especially devoted to asking for God’s blessing on agriculture and industry.  In England, Rogation Days were associated with the blessing of the fields at planting.  The priest would “beat the bounds” of the parish, processing around the fields reciting psalms and the litany.  In the United States, they have been associated with rural life and with agriculture and fishing.

Help Needed

Now that we are semi back to normal, a big shout out and thanks go to the 10 or so folks that helped with worship over the past year so that we could have a live stream or recorded service. It’s time to give the worship team that has so faithfully served this past year a much needed break.

So let’s offer ourselves as readers, greeters, prayers of the people, and acolytes. If you are interested in perfoming one of these ministries, please email Linda Bregartner at lindabregartner@bellsouth.net and let her know what you would like to do or utilize the hallway sign up sheet.
Hello Holy Family!
This past week our kiddos worked hard on their bible verses! They had a great time working together to build each verse! This is an activity I may include each week with important verses that tie into the gospel! We also did something super fun, a popcorn prayer, each child got the chance to pray for something important to them, some prayed for their week at school, their siblings safety, and even all the bean dip in the world, we definitely  will be doing this every week!
Since this week is Mother's Day we are going to learn about some of the amazing mothers of the Bible, like Sarah, Elizabeth, Rebekah, and of course Mary.
Lastly, I want to thank everyone who has bought something off our Children’s Church Amazon Wish list! I do appreciate all the love and support you all show to our program and these toys and books will surely be put to good use! If you need the link to see what else we would love here it is!

IAM Food Drive Status
5/3/2021
A one ton food donation to Interfaith Assistance Ministry (IAM) by year’s end has been adopted as a goal by Holy Family. Yes, this sounds ambitious, but let’s look at how the goal can be met. If 25 folks contribute 9.5 lbs per month over the remaining 8 months, that, along with what has already been donated, will result in a one ton food contribution.  So when you go to the grocery, pick up some extra canned goods, a sack of potatoes, some jars of spaghetti sauce, or peanut butter, and we can easily reach this goal. (Can you tell an an engineer wrote this?)
So let’s kick our Holy Family generosity up a notch and reach out to our community’s needy. We can do this!
