Team Blyth set the standard at NEGP
The North East Grand Prix season kicked off on Wednesday evening, with a large squad of Team Blyth athletes converging on Monkton Stadium for a night athletics, looking to build on the hard work they have put in during club training over the last month since restrictions were eased.

The 75m kicked things off on track with Caitlin Creaby running a wind assisted 11.52, which was the fastest U13G time of the evening. In the same heat Frankie Foster ran 13.09. Millie Wilkinson won her heat in 9.74s, to take maximum points in the U15G event, it was the first ever sub-10s performance by a Blyth athlete, although it was wind assisted.

Next up was the 150m, with Caitlin have barely 10 minutes rest between events, and she ran a superb 23.42s PB, wind-legal this time! Senna Gorvett showed remarkable strength and form as she ran 20.93 in her heat, whilst Millie Train stormed through to win her heat in 20.46. Sadie Parker was also first across the line in her heat in 20.38, whilst Abi recorded a time of 21.32s to finish as fastest U13 girl. Millie Wilkinson showed great composure in her 150m, with a time of 19.49s meaning she ended up as fastest U15.
Alfie Ward (17.90) and Jakob Nailen (17.25) both produced strong season openers in fast heats, before we moved on to the 300m. Sadie Parker showed excellent pace judgement to take max U15 points in 44.73, whilst Luke Pichler also showed class on his debut over the distance with 41.96s. In the 1500m Freya Johnson made a huge improvement to her PB with a strong run (5:39.46), whilst in the same heat Frankie produced a fine debut over the distance (5:54.60). Niamh also made her debut over the metric mile, running a time of 5:48.84 in a well-paced run. Lauren continued her fine start to the season with another U15 club record (5:10.88). Finally, coach Craig returned to track over the 1500m, producing a fine run.

Every single performance from our juniors in the 75m, 150m, 300m and 1500m was a personal best, although some were wind assisted.

In the field, athletes were working on specific technical points and the competition was considered an extension of training. Abi and Senna worked off shorter approaches in the long jump, whilst Millie T showed progression with her take off and flight. In the shot put Luke Picher made his debut with the 4kg shot, throwing 9.50m, whilst Oscar Pichler was just outside his PB with 4.40m.

TRAFFORD OPEN 1ST MAY - REPORT
Sadie Parker and Millie Wilkinson travelled to Trafford for an open meet yesterday. Sadie kicked things off in the high jump, and it was very much a learning opportunity with some run-up issues. Things ran more smoothly in the 200m, where she produced a fine run and demonstrated excellent form to cross the line 1st in a big PB of 27.59s.  Millie took part in the 100m, and produced a solid run that was just a whisker outside her PB with 13.03s
