Food Systems Approach Critical to Recovery from COVID-19: 2021 Global Food Policy ReportWhile Africa south of the Sahara has largely avoided severe health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic (fewer than 5 percent of globally confirmed cases and approximately 89,000 COVID-related deaths), the region is experiencing economic fallout due to national and global pandemic policy responses. Economic growth, value chain functioning, incomes, trade, poverty, and consumption have all been negatively affected, according to IFPRI’s 2021 Global Food Policy Report.

Development in the Sahel | A new series of national case studies provide up-to-date knowledge and critical insights on the nexus of land degradation, climate change and energy in the Sahel. They also identify policy entry points and investment opportunities that will help advance economic growth, food security, and job creation in the region. 
LATEST FEATURES FROM FSP
The FSP E-Learning Platform is growing! In addition to a course on conducting impact evaluations, the FSP recently launched a new course on the Pro-WEIA index. Future courses will cover partial and general equilibrium models, CGE models, and value chain analysis.
The Africa South of the Sahara Food Security Portal (SSA FSP), facilitated by IFPRI and supported by the European Commission, provides up-to-date data and information to monitor regional food security situations and food prices, as well as tools for policy analysis and capacity development – all with the aim of providing policymakers and other stakeholders with the information they need to make appropriate and timely responses to address food insecurity.
