Dear <<First Name>>!

The recent uptick in Asian hate crimes and racist attacks means our upcoming program, “Chinatown Through the Eyes of God,” is more important and timely than ever for several reasons. For one, the history of racism against Asians needs more exposure and S.F.’s Chinatown is an anchor in this story. Secondly, placing these stories within the redemptive umbrella of God’s Story sets a much clearer path for Spirit-filled healing and solidarity. I wish I could physically immerse you into Chinatown. Being that I cannot, we’re offering the second best option, stories of racism from my special guest, Kathy Chin Leong, and curated pictures of Chinatown taken by award winning photographer Dick Evans. Then I’ll tie all this up with the biblical story of new relationships through the Cross. May God use these shame-unto-honor stories and photos for his glory.

Time: May 14th at 7:30-9:00 pm Pacific.
Registration: Click here.

Once you register, you’ll receive a Zoom link. Also, Kathy Chin Leong and I created two welcome videos. Find them here.  This event is a partnership between Kingdom Rice and two San Francisco Chinese churches. If you don’t relate to Asian culture and don’t live close to a Chinatown, this event is especially for you!

Kingdom Rice Matching Fund Offer - “Shop Local in 2021”
During this pandemic with on-line shopping at an all-time high, many local business are really struggling. We can’t help everyone, but we’ve been very intentional about supporting our local businesses through shopping, listening, praying, and fundraising. Sometimes we act urgently, like last week when we learned that a restaurant who employs a single mom friend of ours needed to meet a certain sales number to stay open. At other times we’ve purchased vouchers, invested in “gofundmes,” and I have been mentoring a senior staff from the “Y” who has since started turning to Jesus for the first time and joined our church along with his wife. As we “shop local” in 2021, we’re sowing seeds for the Kingdom, and God is watering them.

One of our financial donors is offering a matching grant called “Shop Local in 2021” in the amount of $2,021 to encourage our continued "salt and light" to local merchants and organizations. If you consider giving to this campaign, you are giving to God through Kingdom Rice. The matching grant will match gifts outside of regular giving according to this criteria:
  • Donors who will contribute any multiple of $202.10 as a special gift (e.g. $202.10, $404,20, etc)
  • Donors who will contribute any multiple of $20.21 monthly’s or equivalent (for at least 12 months).
Click here for all options to give. All gifts are tax-deductible (except for ones given through certain kinds of gift funds).  Let’s keep shopping local in 2021!
Why is “Chinatown Through the Eyes of God” so important? Board member Nate Lee and I recently delivered a sermon answering that question. Check it out here. (sermon starts at minute 22)

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage month; ironic that as I write this, I just heard about another attack against an Asian man, this time against a Chinatown leader. One of our own board members witnessed an attack right in front of her, witnessing the sound of an elderly woman's head hitting the concrete sidewalk in Chinatown. It's real. 3800 REPORTED attacks have been reported as of March. Actual numbers are much higher reports NPR. Lord have mercy. Pray and ask God what role you can play. May God use our program and work to give him glory.

I pray God uses this newsletter to enlarge your heart for the things that concern His heart.        Love Steve
