President Silvio writes. . .
Dear Fellow Rotarians and Friends,
As we are nearing our club’s changeover there is a lot of planning underway to ensure we have a smooth transfer from the current regime to the new Rotary year under PP Lalitha Warren. The venue for the special occasion will be the Roseville Golf Club, a splendid venue as we know from past experiences.
Very soon we will be sending out details for the event to be held on Tuesday 6 July, 2021.
Make a note in your diary as we would like to see all members and guests attend.
Welcome Brooke Bannister, newest member of Lane Cove Rotary. It was a great pleasure to induct Brooke as our newest member this week. Brooke brings with her a wealth of international experience including an exchange student experience from Canada to Belgium. Brooke has already participated in several club activities and will be a great asset to the club. If you haven’t already met Brook, do so at your earliest opportunity and extend a warm welcome.
Our remarkable speaker this week:
Fifi Hazzouri, founder of ‘Diabetes Alive’
Living with Diabetes for over 30 years has provided Fifi with insights about the good, the bad and the ugly things about Diabetes.  Fifi has suffered five heart attacks, kidney failure, double organ transplant and a range of other complications from her diabetes. Despite diabetes challenging her daily, she still finds the time to support others through Diabetes Alive. Fifi is the Founder of Diabetes Alive, a non-profit organisation, that seeks to support underprivileged children living with Type 1 Diabetes by providing insulin pumps, education and resources to people who live with Diabetes.
John Waterhouse supported Fifi in her presentation on behalf of the Rotary Club of St Ives who are a key driver in helping Fifi raise funds and awareness for Insulin Pumps for underprivileged children.
Official opening of Deborah Hutchens Playground, Longueville Park.
On a beautiful day in Longueville around 200 locals and dignitaries witnessed the official opening of the freshly rejuvenated playground, named in honour of a favourite Councillor, Mayor and local identity, Deborah Hutchens. It was a fitting tribute for one who worked so generously for our community and certainly this very public recognition of her life lived on behalf of the community was deeply moving for Debbie’s family.
Debbie was a dear friend of Rotary and our club was represented by Adrienne Witteman, James Shevlin, John Palmer, David Brooks-Horn, Jenny May and DGE Lindsay May.
‘The Diverse Journey of Guy Warren” at Gallery Lane Cove.
Guy Warren is an Australian Living Legend, celebrating his 100th year in 2021. He is a national art treasure, a Greenwich resident of since 1960s, with a remarkable artistic career spanning some eight decades.
He has inspired many other artists with his inventive and curious approach to the landscape and human form. An Archibald Prize winner, educator and respected painter, his contribution to Australia's visual culture has been enormous.

Lane Cove Rotary financially supported the exhibiting Gallery Lane Cove with a major contribution towards the printing cost of the full colour exhibition catalogue and consequently several members attended the opening night. The Exhibition remains open until 29 May, 2021.
