Let’s celebrate Europe in May!

Europe House Live
On May 8, the Delegation of European Union to the U.S. and EU embassies in Washington, DC present Europe House Live! Experience over 20 special performances from across the EU, brought to you in real time on the eve of Europe Day. Finland is one of the participating EU countries and presents Eeppi Ursin, a talented singer-songwriter.

EU Ambassador to the United States, Stavros Lambrinidis, kicks off the festivities at 5 PM EDT, after which we will go on a virtual musical tour through Europe. The Master of Ceremonies is none other than Alyssa Milano, the famous American actor. At 6 PM, cheer with us as we usher in Europe Day 2021 at midnight CET!

Finnish municipal elections

The Finnish municipal elections of 2021 were moved from April to June due to the COVID-19 situation and the subsequent act by the Parliament to postpone the election. The new election day is Sunday, June 13, 2021.

Voters are advised to order the mail voting material even if they are planning to vote abroad on the official advance voting days. Read more about postal voting and the right to vote at www.vaalit.fi.

There are three advance voting stations in the United States: the Embassy of Finland in Washington, D.C. and the Consulates General of Finland in New York and Los Angeles. You can find the opening hours and addresses on our website (in Finnish and Swedish).

The National Nordic Museum in Seattle opens a new exhibition in May, featuring landscape masterpieces from the Finnish National Gallery. It examines how Finnish artists have depicted the landscape of their native country from the 1850s until the present day.

In April, World Resources Institute and the Nordic embassies to the United States hosted a high-level conversation with U.S. and Nordic government officials, automakers and transportation leaders on how to decarbonize the transportation sector. From Finland, we were joined by Mr. Timo Harakka, Minister of Transport and Communications of Finland.
