Meet the Indy 500 Milk People

"Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines!" Race fans, it's almost that time race and we're getting the milk iced down in preparation. In case you're new in town, let us explain.  “Winners Drink Milk” is considered one of the most beloved phrases and traditions in Indiana and all of sports. The Indianapolis 500 tradition started in 1936 with driver Louis Meyer simply requesting buttermilk to quench his thirst. The Drink of Milk has since evolved from a thirst satisfying beverage to a ceremonial hand-off with an Indiana dairy farmer presenting the iconic, glass milk bottle to the winner with over 250,000 people watching in-person and more worldwide. Each year, two Indiana dairy farmers carry out the “Winners Drink Milk” tradition. Meet the 2021 Indy 500 Milk People.

Dairy In Balance
Dairy farmers work hard everyday to "balance" the demand for safe, nutritious dairy foods while positively impacting the health of our planet. Today, the carbon footprint of one gallon of milk is 19% less than it was a decade ago, but we’re not done yet. By 2050, U.S. Dairy will achieve carbon neutrality or better while improving water use and quality – because we’re committed to being an environmental solution.
