CORRECTION TO RETAIL COUNCIL OF CANADA TAKE-ACTION ALERT
Our apologies: Last week we included an incorrect email address when we emailed you about the Retail Council of Canada's statement that it is voiding critical animal welfare commitments to phase out the use of gestation crates for mother pigs by 2022, and the use of battery cages for egg-laying hens by 2025. We asked you to contact Canada's leading grocery retailers—all RCC members—and ask that they honour their promises to phase cage-raised meat out of their supply chains.

BELOW ARE THE CORRECT EMAIL ADDRESSES FOR ALL THE KEY CONTACTS AT THESE COMPANIES. (The incorrect address last week was for Michael Medline at Sobeys — his correct address is below.)

Thank you once again for taking action and helping farm animals.

SUGGESTED EMAIL MESSAGE
(email addresses can be grouped so that one message reaches all contacts at the same company; adjust company name in salutation as needed)

Dear Loblaw executives,

I am contacting you as a frequent grocery shopper and a concerned Canadian who cares about the welfare of farm animals. You are probably aware that in March 2021, the Retail Council of Canada released a statement that it is voiding commitments to phase out the use of gestation crates for mother pigs by 2022, and battery cages for egg-laying hens by 2025.

You also are probably well aware that the use of these cages is cruel and inhumane. I have been heartened in recent years by the efforts of major retailers like yours to improve the welfare standards governing the animal products you purchase; it is only when large corporations get behind these efforts that we see real change.

Please continue to honour your commitments.

Our farmers and producers have had years to implement these improvements, and as consumers, we are depending on you to do the right thing and continue to expect them.

I would greatly appreciate a response; thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
