Nuclear Energy Webinar 


These two webinars were held in April 2021, as educational events regarding government funded plans to build experimental nuclear reactors and a plutonium extraction plant on the existing Point Lepreau nuclear power site which is located on the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick. New Nanos Poll Finds Strong Nuclear Weapons Concerns


The threat posed by nuclear weapons is of major concern to Canadians according to a new poll released today by, Nanos Research. The poll results show that Canadians are very positive about key solutions the disarmament movement has been advocating and that Canadians are action oriented in responding to the nuclear threat. Meet Our New Summer Staff
IPPNWC believes creating opportunities for youth to learn and involving young leaders in our work is an essential part of fulfilling our purposes. This summer, with the help of the Canadian Youth Summer Job Grant we have hired 3 bright young staff, all passionate about social change. They will be working with our Executive Director Lia Holla and Program Coordaintor Magritte Gordaneer to expand IPPNWC programs this summer. 


Mackita Allison - Administrative Assistant

Mackita Allison has her Bachelor in Peace and Conflict and Spanish Latin American studies. For the past 10 years she’s been involved in social advocacy within her communities of Toronto and the Waterloo region. She is passionate about learning, conflict transformation, peacebuilding, nuclear disarmament, horticulture and naps.

 

 Tristan Surman - Media Coordinator, MyMediaCreative 

This is Tristan! He loves telling stories for social good—usually through a video, branding, and campaign strategies. He also loves making music, meeting new people, and attending esoteric post-2005 situational comedy trivia nights. He is the founder and strategic Director of MymediaCreative and will be creating a video series for IPPNWC this summer along with Tony and other members of his team.

Tony Wang has a Bachelor’s in Cognitive Science and World Cinemas. He believes in the social impact of storytelling and loves horror movies, podcasts, and em dashes. He is the Creative Director of MymediaCreative and will be creating a video series for IPPNWC this summer along with Tristan and other members of his team.


 

Noah Weisberg - IPPNWC Monthly Talk's (Active Members Meeting)

On May 12, Noah Weisbord, professor at Queen's University Law School and a leading expert in the crime of aggression as well as inter-group conflict discussed Global Law and governance with our active member's group.


Walter Dorn - IPPNWC Monthly Talk's (Active Members Meeting)
On June 9th operational professor, Walter Dorn recounted the remarkable progress of civil society for their work on banning nuclear weapons, the consequences of extremism, and his experience in East Timor. Overall, Walter narrated a harrowing story of finding peace amongst war. Monthly Talk's for Members and Observers resumes this fall, September 8th.
 



With more than 90 registered participants, the IPPNWC course, "A just Global Order", was a complete success. The course ran through the spring, but no need to worry if you missed the course it will run again in September.

In this course, Mary-Wynne Ashford, MD, PhD, describes new proposals to reform or replace the United Nations in order to address the existential crises we face today: climate emergency, nuclear war, and a global pandemic. 
Dr. Ashford is Past Co-President of IPPNW, and Past President IPPNW Canada (then Physicians for Global Survival). She is a current Board Member of IPPNWC.
And has been a leader in the international peace and disarmament movement for over thirty years.

Invitation to become an Active Member
The monthly meeting of Active Members and Observers is on the second Wednesday of each month at 5 PM PST; 8 PM EST. Visitors are welcome. Please register with admin@ippnwcanada.ca

If you are interested in working with us on a campaign in your local area or nationally, you might be interested in joining our monthly Zoom call first as an observer. We discuss issues, share projects we are working on, and support each other in our work. There is no fee. The zoom call is on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:00 PM PDT, please send an email to admin@ippnwcanada.ca indicating if you wish to be an observer or an Active Member. We ask Active Members to submit a CV and Application Form.

Medical Student Mentorship
If you are in a program that allows time to do independent research and you are interested in peace, environment, and health, we have physicians who are willing to mentor you and assist you to write for publication. 


What You Can Do for Peace

  • Attend or organize a meeting about how to reduce racism and prejudice in your community. 
  • Write letters, poetry, music for your community to build unity and justice. Write a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, House of Commons, Ottawa K1A 0A9 to thank him for signing the Call for Global Ceasefires, and ask him to sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. 
  • Take part in the ICAN cities appeal 
  • Write a letter or organize a Zoom call with people you know to talk about the Atomic Bombings in 1945. If you would like to use our PowerPoint slides, they are on our website: ippnwcanada.ca
