Reminder as to why SSAs are critical:
- There are 5,038 School Safety Agents (SSAs) in NYC public schools.
- The Mayor and City Council are proposing to transfer these SSAs (who are 70% women) from the NYPD to the Department of Education (DOE).
- But ... the DOE has been unable to properly train and screen safety agents in the past. And this is why they were moved to the NYPD in 1998.
- 2018-2019, School Safety Agents confiscated 2,701 weapons from students.
- 1,677 of these weapons were knives -- a number that is 92% higher than in 2015.
- Parents agree ... Last year I circulated a petition that 355 parents signed. We submitted this petition to DOE, State Education Committee and at a PEP meeting last May.

Hope you can make it!
