May Flowers

May 2021 Newsletter

April Showers brings May flowers. Don't be fooled thinking that just because its a desert, there isn't beauty here. The bright yellow Palo Verde trees start us off followed by all the wonderful cacti including our majestic saguaro cactus and prickly pear blossoms. The blinding bougainvillea explode through out our neighborhoods along with the Texas Sage's wonderful purple aromatic flowers. There is so much more but I was only allowed 5 photos. We may not have turning trees in the fall but our spring more than makes up for it.

Events are are really starting to come back. Here is the updated calendar for May and going it June. Please keep in mind, some events for May have been cancelled and things can change at the last minute. I do try to get everything update as quickly as possible but if you have a question, please contact the event coordinator directly.

The Origins of the Ginny Doll
Posted March 29, 2021 in Dolls
by Ruby Lane
The post- world War II era in the USA saw a time of relative peace and prosperity for much of society. Adults who had grown up in the shadow of the Great Depression and who had lived through the war years found themselves in a new world. There was a surge in commerce and home building and a baby boom was underway as people resumed their pursuit of the American dream. In Massachusetts a home-maker named Jennie Graves took her love of dolls and fashion, and created a doll company which would eventually develop one of the most popular dolls of the mid-20th century, Ginny.
