Women Farmers &
Ranchers on the Rise

On March 2, 2021, the Women Farmers and Ranchers on the Rise project launched the statewide Idaho Women Farmer and Rancher Survey to understand the challenges and opportunities facing Idaho's women in agriculture and how educational programs can better support them.
Between March 2 and April 30, 464 women from 40 counties across the state completed the full survey.
The graphic below illustrates the survey responses by University of Idaho Extension Districts.

What easement programs are offered in Idaho?
Here is the answer:
The Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) in Idaho "offers easement programs to landowners who want to maintain or enhance their land in a way beneficial to agriculture and/or the environment." All NRCS easement programs are voluntary. Idaho NRCS provides technical help and financial assistance, but local landowners and organizations are essential for making NRCS easement programs successful.
In Idaho, there are two primary easement programs offered:
1. Agricultural Easement Program (ACEP)
This program includes Agricultural Land Easements (ALE) that focus on helping the landowners of working farms and ranches keep their land in agriculture as cropland, pastureland, grassland, rangeland, or non-industrial private forest lands. It also includes Wetland Reserve Easements (WRE) that help protect, store, and enhance wetlands that are being farmed or have been converted.

2. Healthy Forests Reserve Program
The Healthy Forests Reserve Program (HFRP) helps landowners restore, enhance, and protect forestland resources on private lands through easements and financial assistance. HRFP supports endangered and threatened species recovery, improves plant and animal biodiversity, and enhances carbon sequestration.
