St Mark's e-News May 2021

From the Head of College

The academic year is in full swing, and life at College is busy, stimulating, and rewarding. There’s more on the diverse achievements and activities of our students in the first two articles linked to this e-newsletter, which I hope you will enjoy reading.

Some of the diverse accomplishments of Old Collegians are also reflected in this e-news – as is our gratitude to so many people who contribute to making possible the life-changing opportunities which the College offers. Particularly prominent below are the eighth Master, Rose Alwyn, and our most generous benefactors, Ian and Pamela Wall.

We have just celebrated Ian’s 90th birthday – and look ahead to the 100th birthday in October of our oldest living Collegian, Dr John Skipper. Both Ian and John look back with gratitude on the positive impact which St Mark’s had in their lives, and are committed to helping current and future generations of students have such benefits as well.

As the season of Annual Giving is upon us, I will be writing to you soon to invite your annual gift to support the College and our students – most especially for scholarships which enable young people of potential from diverse backgrounds to gain the benefits of living and learning together with other students here at St Mark’s.

Scholarships offer life-changing opportunities, and the need is very real – as is the gratitude of our students.

I hope that you will feel able to support our students with an annual gift, however small or large, towards scholarships this year.

Thank you in anticipation for your support for our students and for the College in this and other ways – and best wishes from 46 Pennington Terrace!

Professor Don Markwell
Head of College
