Current Storage Positions
This week North Island hydro storage increased by five percentage points to 35% of average for the time of year, and South Island hydro storage increased by six percentage points to 76% of average for the time of year. Overall, national hydro storage has increased by five percentage points to 73% of average and now sits 598 GWh above the 1% risk curve. Expected levels of rainfall suggest that inflows will return to average-below average over the next few days.
Inflows over recent weeks have seen storage levels rise to a position where we are unlikely to cross the 1% curve in the near term (outside of exceptional circumstances). We have discontinued daily reporting. Should the storage position return to within seven days of the 1% risk curve, daily reporting will resume.
