A Message from the Primary Coordinator
Being known and valued leads to learning!
Phoenix is my small brown brumby from Mount Kosciuszko who is currently very round from eating too much grass. Over the last two years together we have been learning to ride, changing from wild brumby to being able to have weekend paddock rides with me. The thing about Phoenix is that before he lets me ride him, I must spend time cleaning the burs from his mane, rubbing his neck and generally hanging out before asking...

National Simultaneous Storytime
On Wednesday 19th May PCS students from Kinder to Year 4 participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime.
This is a nation-wide initiative of the Australian Library and Information Association. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
Students read a story called 'Give Me Some Space' by Philip Bunting. It was so lovely to see the students engaged in reading.

CSSA Soccer Gala Day
On Friday 14th May, selected students from Year 3 to Year 6 competed in the CSSA Soccer Gala Day.
Both teams participated in 3 games throughout the day. At first, they were a bit intimidated by how tall the other team’s players were yet they persevered and learned to rely on their training and teamwork skills to take control of the ball.
Some highlights of the day included:
- Peter making repeated strikes at a goal until the ball finally went in.
- Matthew blocking 3 goals in the space of a minute.
- Bradley running head first toward somebody twice his size and taking possession of the ball.
- The boy’s team winning their second match by 6 goals.
- In the final game, when playing against an undefeated team with no goals against them for the day, Jacob managed to break through their defence and came within an inch of scoring a goal.
Both teams had a positive competitive spirit, which was demonstrated by playing hard during the games, following the referee’s instructions, training in between matches and shaking hands and congratulating other teams after the games.
Thank you to Mr Jay Quince for organising the day and to Mrs Jacquelyn Greenland for coaching and managing.

Year 7 Agriculture
The Year 7 girls have continued their unit on Healthy Eating and have moved into looking at different processed foods and how they are used in cooking. They have had experiences in the kitchen every week, making yummy foods including chicken burgers, thai beef salad and mini quiches. Year 7 girls also helped make the food that was sold at the High School Disco a few weeks ago.

Senior Multimedia
Our Senior Multimedia students recently completed a Year 11 Major Project in order to prepare them for the HSC Major Work. Students had just eight weeks to put their project together, and complete a 40-page portfolio documenting their process and research.
The Multimedia Major Work has a large emphasis on skill development. Students need to come up with an idea, research all the technology they need to create their idea, and then execute their idea as well as they can. They need to document every click of the mouse and every adjustment they make, plus evaluate all their work and discuss problems that arose and how they solved them.
As a result, the projects are quite small; NESA recommends projects should take no more than two minutes to view. So for Year 11, they were restricted to one minute. The students are now busily working on some very exciting projects for the HSC which are due early in Term 3. We can't wait to see what they produce!

High School - CSSA Soccer Gala Day
The sun was shining, the freezing wind was blowing and we were pumped for a great day at the Soccer Gala Day held at Harrison Park. We had great representation with 1 open boy's team, 1 open girl's team and 2 under 15's boy's teams.
The open boy's team played three games and demonstrated great skill winning two of those games. Everyone acquitted themselves admirably with notable plays by Nick Unger, Jack McMaster, Toby Field, Steven Unger and Tyler Boland.
The open girl's team had a full range of players from year 7 students through to Year 12 girls enjoying their final school sporting opportunities. The girls played well but against a team of senior students, our girls we just couldn't keep up. Chloe Amery, Ruby Wilson, Chelsea Day and Laura Rusten really pushed themselves and made some good gains.
The under 15 boy' teams both played well winning and losing games throughout the day. Lachlan Unger, Samual Quince, Charlie Cowie, Thomas Fredericks and Liam Freeman played powerfully.
We would like to thank Mr Quince for organising the day, Mr Brown for his enthusiastic sideline coaching, Mrs van Wyk and Mrs Milne for their never ending support. Also a big thanks to our scorekeepers, Jasmine Collier, Wera Thomson, Edward Mayo and Mackenna McGuire.

'Animal Farm' Excursion
Year 9-10 plus some lucky Year 8 students went to Orange to view Shake & Stir's production of Animal Farm on Thursday. Both English classes are studying the novel by George Orwell and were fortunate to be able to watch this unique and award-winning adaptation of the novel. Students were impressed by the lighting and staging used to set the scene, as well as the versatility of the actors - five actors performed the entire production, switching roles with tremendous physicality and versatility. I look forward to having more opportunities like this!

Youth Trivia Night - a fun night for all ages!
Thank you to all that supported the 2021 SRC Trivia night. Parents and community members, students and teachers fought for bragging rights to become the glorious winners of the inaugural SRC Youth Trivia Night champions.
A huge thank you to Mr Ballantyne, our quizmaster extraordinaire, who really nailed his target audience with questions relevant to the youth of our world as the winners on the night were our Year 12 class and taking home the wooden spoon our parent table featuring the Moss’s, the McMasters, the McIntyres and the Fields. Also winning huge prizes in our fundraising competitions was Malachi Walker (lolly guessing competition) and Steven Unger (closest throw competition).
Also a very big thank you to Mrs Lynn and the team who kept us fed on the night and ran our amazing canteen. Mrs Oates and Mrs Pobjie for their incredible marking and maths skills and to everyone that came along on the night. Our hosts Luke Hall-Matthews and Alex Sammut-Paul did an incredible job hyping everyone up on the night. We love seeing students step up into these roles!
Our highlights were seeing Trudy McMaster win the dancing competition over Edward Mayo, seeing students step up and run games on the night and seeing the Teacher table get beat - which almost never happens!
We are looking forward to more nights like this in the future!

Working Bee
On Thursday 13 and Friday 14 May, our new Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) roof was constructed thanks to a small but hard-working group of volunteers and staff. A big thank you to Jim Davis for leading the troops, and Mr Mac and Mr Cowie for putting in the hard hards on the roof!
The roof will be put into place next week and the new basketball courts will also be completed soon. Although, many primary students think the roof is at the perfect height for them right now!

Fun Fact: I enjoy making my own clothes
The Best Thing about Working at PCS: I have fun every day!

Name: Jacquelyn Greenland.
Your Role at School: Year 2 Teacher and Craft Club Organiser.
Favourite School Memory: From my own schooling - Music. I enjoyed listening to others play and being involved in school musicals, bands and quartets, usually playing the flute. I can't pick a memory from PCS as there are so many, but I really love seeing students achieve their personal goals and excel at what they are passionate about. Whether that is in academics, on the sporting field, involvement in cultural events, or when they demonstrate compassion, kindness and empathy for others in their words and actions, it is always great to see students shine!
Fun Fact: I have written a book - well a family history book anyway.
The Best Thing about Working at PCS: Hard question! I enjoy many aspects of working at PCS. The staff are a great bunch loving, caring and funny people, who accept me and all my quirks, the grounds are beautiful, I feel really privileged to be able to share and teach the word of God to students without persecution and the students (especially every Year 2 I have taught so far) are incredible!
Favourite Quote/Verse: But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 It has been my favourite for nearly thirty years. We were studying the book of Romans at university and it struck me that this love of God's is unconditional, we did nothing to deserve what Jesus did for us - we were/ still are sinners!

PCS Students Perform in 'Wicked'
After 12 months of rehearsals two PCS students have made their way to the stage to perform in the local M&D Societies production of the musical 'Wicked'.
A massive congratulations to Eric Paterson and Zoe Bilsborough, as well as past student Matthew Prow on their commitment to the show and their performances. Also, well done to Bellah Hewett for helping out backstage.
This weekend is their final show and as they say in the theatre 'break a leg'!
