Message from the Pastor

A decade ago, one of the must-have items for foreign students was an international phone card. Then the iPad appeared in the world. It was a tremendous change to have face-to-face conversations compared to a voice call. The day my daughter was born, my father could see her in Korea and offered blessings over FaceTime. After Olivia was born, my parents called me much more often and their first question was not about how their son was doing but, “Where is Olivia?” Thanks to advances in technology, they could see Olivia growing up every day.

It took 14 months for my parents to actually be able to hug and kiss Olivia. I can’t forget the expression on my father’s face when he could “touch” his granddaughter at the airport. Our bodies and the encounter of bodies are blessings in themselves. How can we love and serve each other without the body?

The Bible emphasized the importance of the body as much as the soul. We are not supposed to only pursue the desire of the flesh (Gal 5:17) but to remember the body is the temple of the holy spirit (1 Cor 6:19). After resurrection, Jesus met his disciples not only spiritually but physically and asked us to have his “body” in us through the Holy Communion.

I am really excited about the decision of the Church Council to start in-person services on July 11th. I am looking forward to meeting you in person and worshipping God at one place. And if you don’t feel comfortable coming to the church yet, please don’t feel sorry. We’ve waited a long time so we can wait a little longer, and there will be an easy way to view the service online as you do now.

Peace,

Pastor Han

Maryanne's Take on the Bible Readings

Hello Wellspring family! The time is approaching when we can finally meet together. I’m definitely ready. I hope you’re all vaccinated so you’ll be ready, too. Even if we might yet be more comfortable wearing masks (and that’s okay!), it’ll be wonderful to see you all, even if it’s only the top half of your face. This week, the first week after Pentecost, the church celebrates Trinity Sunday. Technically, we celebrate this every Sunday since the three aspects of the Trinity are interwoven and when we worship one, we worship all. The scripture choices are interesting in a way that might make us wonder how they refer to the Trinity in its different forms. Let’s see what we can learn from them. We’ll be reading: Psalm 29; Isaiah 6:1-8; John 3:1-17; Romans 8:12-17.
