Library Ethics: Earning Trust and Respect During Difficult Times

Tuesday, June 22 | 11:00 a.m. | One hour webinar
Four principles that support ethical behavior in libraries are transparency, privacy, access to information, and fair and equal treatment. In turbulent times, communicating these principles to the public and library personnel, and adhering to the letter and spirit of their ideas, can earn the trust and respect of your community and institution, even among people who disagree with you. And earn your staff and leadership a good night’s sleep when you have to make difficult decisions.

Programming at Home: Parents and Caregivers
Wednesday, June 30 | 11:00 a.m. | One hour webinar
With school closures, remote learning, and working from home, COVID has changed day-to-day reality for many families. While school-age children are becoming overwhelmed with work and screens, parents are often at a loss to find creative ways to engage younger children who are temporarily unable to attend daycare or preschool. Libraries have stepped in to offer virtual storytimes for their patrons, but what can we offer that directly supports parents’ and caregivers’ engagement with children?

Recruiting, Hiring,  Maintaining & Saying Goodbye to Library Volunteers

Thursday, May 27 | 11: 00 a.m. | One hour webinar
About 60 years ago, the professional nonprofit community came to the conclusion that volunteers needed to be treated like paid employees, meaning that they needed to be subject to the same scrutiny and oversight. The result was that nonprofit agencies became more skilled at recruiting and signing up volunteers who were productive, and the volunteers were treated with the respect they deserved. This webinar shows how libraries can adopt this professional model and boost their volunteer engagement.
