The realms of activism and social media can be powerful and productive, but--particularly when missiles are falling and civilians are dying--they do not afford much space for processing the very many different reactions and emotions we may have. As American Jews, we are removed from but touched by the violence in Israel and Gaza; despite our physical distance and safety, we may feel enmeshed in ways that are complicated for us to unpack, and that we may well feel guilty about centering. But here we are - and to show up as our most intelligent, empathic, grounded and honest selves in the pursuit of justice and peace, we need to take time to explore what’s coming up for us. In this spirit, Jewish students are invited into a space of deep listening - to ourselves and one another. Speaking will happen from the place of personal narrative (a place of heart), will presume no position or prior knowledge, and what is shared will remain confidential.
