On our August 15-22, 2021 Run to Machu Picchu Runcation you'll have a chance to visit the Andean cities of Cusco and Ollantaytambo before beginning your multi-day adventure run from Pallata to Machu Picchu. Below is a spotlight on Day 6 of this adventure:
Day 6: The roosters begin their cacophony early, waking us up to let us know that the day we cross the mountain range by the highest point has arrived. We begin our ascent at 1000 m (3281 ft), traveling for 10 km (6.2 mi) until we reach Mariano Llamojas at 4600 masl (15,092 fasl); having crossed a deep ravine surrounded by the majestic glacier peaks Quriwayrachina, Kiswar, and Pumasillu. This pass is the gateway to the incredible valley of Totora where our transportation will be waiting us for a 33 km (20.5 mi) drive. Along the way, we will find excellent coffee and local fruits in this region, due to the tropical climate. The day will end after an astonishing winding descent to Lucmabamba, where we can sample this region’s excellent locally grown coffee. Very tired after this beautiful day’s run, we will eat dinner early and turn in for some well-deserved rest.
(Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner Included)
Running distance: 17 km (10.5 mi) – Time: 6 hours

The Runner's Rec: Early Season Trail Running Route in Lake Tahoe
The snow is melting fast this spring in Lake Tahoe! We love this trail run to a scenic chain of lakes. At 9 miles round-trip with 1,200 feet of gain on (mainly) dry trails, it’s a perfect way to get into Desolation Wilderness early in the season as the snow melts quicker on this stretch of trail. Starting from the Meek's Bay trailhead, follow the meadow for a mile before starting the climb into Desolation Wilderness. You'll run along the rushing Meek's Creek for 3 more miles before you start to reach the chain of lakes. Make it an out and back to Lake Genevieve for 8-9 miles or continue on the trail towards Crag Lake and beyond!
