Advocacy

Thank Your Legislators!
This legislative session had many wins for schools and families. So let’s thank the legislators who made it happen. If you are happy with a new piece of legislation or budget decision, send a note to the local legislators below:
43rd District: Senator Jamie Pedersen, Rep. Nicole Macri, Rep. Frank Chopp
46th District: Senator David Frockt, Rep. Javier Valdez, Rep. Gerry Pollet

State Legislative Session Wrap Up
A big thank you to all who participated in our WSPTA advocacy this year! Your work helped us accomplish some big things in the legislature. Although we were mostly unsuccessful in getting the state to pay for enrollment stabilization and to fully fund this year’s transportation costs, there were many other legislative wins on our WSPTA platform. Bills that passed will expand broadband access across the state, eliminate lunch co-pays for reduced price lunch students, increase investments in early childhood education through the Fair Start Act, and provide access to local mental health resources through a new national 988 number, among many other wins. Our PTSA has put together a slideshow summary of some of the highlights.

Community Events and Resources

The Southeast Seattle Schools Fundraising Alliance
The Southeast Seattle Schools Fundraising Alliance represents twelve public school PTAs and PTOs in Southeast Seattle, serving 4,400 students collectively. With the implementation of a collaborative fundraising model, our mission is to empower participating schools to address inequities that exist due to Washington state’s underfunding of our public schools. This has led to an increased gap between PTAs that have greater financial and social fundraising capacities and those that don’t. We have partnered with the Alliance for Education to pool and equally distribute any raised funds to participating schools, which will promote equitable access to varying needs as defined by each unique school. You can find more information and donate here.

Free Museum Passes for Families
Did you know your Seattle Public Library card can help you get free admission to museums in Seattle? You and your family can enjoy exhibits on aviation, nature, science, and industry – all for free! You can reserve one pass per week with your library card and each pass includes at least two adult tickets.
