Margherita E. Ghiselli is the Public Health Advisor for the Immunization Unit of the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) in Washington DC, where she supports PAHO Country Offices with the introduction of the COVID-19 vaccines in the countries of the Americas.
Dr. Ghiselli earned her Masters in Public Health and Doctorate in Epidemiology from the University of Minnesota in 2007 and 2012, respectively. In 2014, she started working as an epidemiologist in the Global Immunization Division of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, focusing on improving routine immunization coverage and emergency response operations in the countries of central and west Africa. Starting in March 2020, she served as liaison officer between CDC and PAHO for the COVID-19 response, and in February 2021 she was seconded full-time to PAHO to support routine immunizations and the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccines.
Margherita was Yin's roommate during one year in university and since then they have maintained their close friendship, despite both living on different continents most of the time. Here is an interview she did in 2016, when she spoke about her work on combatting ebola on the African continent (for which she had to miss Yin's wedding in Costa Rica).
