UniGR-CBS Guest Professorship in Border Studies |
The UniGR-CBS is pleased to welcome the first international Border Studies scholar in 2021. Dr. Daniela Johannes, who is originally from Chile, is currently Associate Professor and Director of Latin American and Latinx Studies at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, USA. She will spend the months of June and July at Saarland University, working together with Prof. Astrid Fellner in the field of Chicanx Studies. Her project will focus on the significance of the Sonoran Desert environment as a crucial aspect of U.S. securitization which propels a politics that controls death by natural causes as a way of conserving the life of the nation. She will work on recent Chicanx writings, in which the border figures as a landscape of torture, disappearance, and death. |
