We are trying something different to advertise our Open exhibition and we invite you to take part. Come in and take a bundle of our free Open postcards… as you enjoy your post lockdown freedom visiting coffee shops, the dentist (?!) and even the pub, leave a couple of postcards for people to pick up. Alternatively, send them to your friends and inspire them to visit St Barbe. Help us spread the word and make this our most successful Open exhibition ever!

Help the bees help the birds and have fun by growing the tallest sunflower plant or largest flower this summer to celebrate Wild, St Barbe summer exhibition opening 19 June.
We have 100 packets of SUNFLOWERS to be given away - come in and collect them!

Keep us posted - send a photo to marketing@stbarbe-museum.org.uk.  Entries close on 27 August with an adult and children’s prize for the largest and tallest announced at the close of the exhibition. Full instructions with seeds!

Help us to make a BUZZ ... at St Barbe!

To coincide with St Barbe hosting the WILD exhibition for families, presenting wildlife and the environment from 12 June - 4 September, the Friends of St Barbe will be creating a BUZZ around the outside of the building with bee friendly pollinating plants in large planters and troughs.

We are collecting any suitable spare seedlings or plants you may have, please... as we have lots of space to fill! Please deliver to us during week beginning 7 June at St Barbe.  Thank you very much all you gardeners!

Friends Talks
Our next talk via Zoom on Friday 4 June at 7.30pm will be Mark Drury from SPUD Sway. SPUD is an arts and education charity that creates opportunities for artists to engage with the public, architecture, urban design and the environment, producing new work as a catalyst for exploration, debate and public understanding.

Following a merger with the ArtSway charitable Trust in 2018, SPUD took over responsibility for the former ArtSway building to create spudWORKS. This has created a newly refurbished creative hub, with a community workshop space, gallery, artists studios and a wide range of creative businesses renting desk and office space. We plan to put all the Friends Talks on our website incase you miss one!

Next Friends Talk Friday 4 June at 7.30pm. Here’s the link:

Kickstart at St Barbe

You will see some new young faces at St Barbe for the next six months as we have recruited 3 apprentices from the Government’s Kickstart scheme.  Lauren is working with the Collections Team, Scott is Front of House and Harvey helping with all that happens behind the scenes in the office.  Please make them welcome.

Friends' Committee
Do you want to have a voice in how the Friends’ group operates?  Do you have a couple of hours to spare each month?  Then we would love you to join the Committee that organises and runs the Friends’ of St Barbe.  We administer the membership scheme, organise Talks and events and publish this newsletter. We’re also a nice group of people and we have some fun along the way! Please contact us at friends@stbarbe-museum.org.uk.
