Answer: A group of people who are very difficult to stump with Japan-themed trivia?

WHO ARE JET ALUMNI?

On April 23rd, JETAARM hosted its Japan-themed Virtual Jeopardy event. Despite the best efforts of the question writers, the JET Alumni and Friends of JET who participated were not easily stumped. The categories covered a broad array of Japan-themed trivia which included Japanese mascots, ethnic minorities of Japan, and US-Japan Sister City relationships just to name a few. Even with this broad range of categories, a question regarding Ariana Miyamoto, the first multiracial person to be crowned Miss Universe Japan, was the only one not answered correctly by any participant. This was likely due to the large and diverse group of over 25 participants who joined the event from all over the U.S., representing multiple subchapters and all generations of JETs.

In the end, the team No Ketchup Plz, composed of alumni from JETAA Chicago, took home the top prize - an original postcard featuring Zeb, our JETAARM mascot, created by board member Teri Galvez. The board would like to thank the following for making this event a huge success: Adam Lisbon who organized the event alongside former JETAARM Events Coordinator Caroline Anderson; board members Adam, David LaCharite, Danielle Schlosser, and Teri who joined in on Wednesday night question-writing sessions; our talented board members Teri and Alissa Berdahl for creating original artwork as prizes; and JETAARM Treasurer David Gifford for coordinating the funding required to implement this event.

Final Jeopardy:

Answer: A fun night had by all that we hope we can do again in the future.

JETAA HAWAII MEET-UPS
by Teri Galvez

For the month of April, I was in Hawaii with my sister and her boyfriend for remote work and vacation. While I was there, I made sure to hit up Rich Kei whom I met at my first NatCon to see if we could organize a JETAA Meet-Up. He was so wonderful and welcoming throughout our whole trip. On top of giving us our first informal surfing lessons, he set up the whole BBQ for our first JETAA hang out at Makai Pier, with Tiffany Yoshida, Kristian Lipumano, and Ryan Hata from the JETAANY chapter. It was great reuniting and meeting with more JETAA peers after a long year of only virtual calls, and having those reminiscent JET conversations about Japan and possible future collaborations. During our last week, we met up with Rich and Mark Ohara to go surfing one more time, and finished the day with a Happy Hour joined by Tiffany at Aloha Beer Co. It was so much fun, and I hope others within the JETAA community will remember to reach out to other chapters while they travel because you can always expect some great conversation and new friends. A big Mahalo again to Rich and the JETAA Hawaii board for all they did for us during our stay!
