Families and friends of the Arc,

Well, we are in May of 2021, 16 months after the start of the pandemic, the gas shortage is almost over and the mask requirement has just been lifted.  What a wild time over the past year!

Our day programs have fully reopened as of early May, our residents are able to visist family and have visitors and we are all trying to find our way during this time of reopenings.

Our staff deserves a tremendous round of applause for their efforts in keeping our residents safe and healthy and working through the unknown these many months.  I also want to thank all those who have made life a bit easier for us at the Arc and their volunteerism is greatly appreciated.

Finally, as we start to slowly return to normal, we have some exciting news to share regarding upcoming events.  So, read on and enjoy!

Thanks.

Lark for The Arc XIII
May 3, 2021

Dear Friends,

I’ve returned from the weeds and boy, do I have a number for you, the number of species identified on our Bird Count day in support of the folks supported by The Arc of the Piedmont. And that number is:  102

Yes, that is the biggest number in 13 years of Larking for The Arc and it comes at a time when, hopefully, it will help induce a few larger donations for, after all, this effort isn’t all for the birds, and the resources of The Arc have certainly been under duress this past year.

So this letter, finally after the fact but still before the need, will be short and to the point: please consider a tax-deductible gift to The Arc of the Piedmont, a 68-year-old 501-c-3 non-profit organization charged with providing services, supports and advocacy efforts to and for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID and DD).

These disabilities vary from Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, brain injury, birth defects; all of them can be devastating, and the results of each of them can be mitigated by the kinds of supports and services that The Arc provides.  The goal is to promote a life for each individual that offers her/him as much independence as possible, to allow each person to spread their wings as far and as wide as is possible, to allow her/him to have a life as much like ours as possible.  And your support can make a difference!

To make a secure donation by credit card go to
www.arcpva.org/donate and do your thing.  If you prefer to write a check, please make it out to The Arc of the Piedmont and mail it to The Arc | 1149 Rose Hill Drive | Charlottesville VA 22903.  Please write “Lark” on the memo line and as the reason for your gift.

By the way, I was favored by a couple of friendly dogs, zero vile serpents, diminishing winds… and a LOT of birds on Saturday.  Haven’t found a single tick yet… but still searching.  I had a good time doing my part for the Lark and I hope that you feel good about doing your part next.  Thank you!
