Dear SCCS Families,

Every school year changes us.  Look at our kids on day 1 of a new grade and then on day 165!  And this year has changed all of us in a way not many of us have experienced before in our lifetime.  We are - for better or for worse - shaped by this shared experience.  And it will be what we do with this new day that will define us - as individuals, as a charter school, and as a community.

As a small independent charter school, Stone Creek has always cultivated and benefited from the strength of individuals.  This is our culture.  This is who we are and what we do best.  Stone Creek is a place where people find themselves.  They discover what they’re good at, what they believe in, what moves them and drives them.  We cherish this role in our community and we strive to welcome individuals, to support them and nurture them and grow them, and then, when the time comes, to wish them well on their journey.

Michele Miller, has accepted the principal position at Eagle Valley Elementary School for the 21-22 school year.  This decision reflects Mrs. Miller’s professional goals.  It is not a reflection on Stone Creek’s value as a school.  We are lucky in Eagle County to have so many excellent schools - and multiple opportunities to find the best fit.  As an independent charter school, we are able to provide an exceptional individualized experience with a broad perspective and we are proud of our talented students and staff.

.While Stone Creek has benefited from Mrs. Miller’s guidance through this very challenging time, her departure does not create a void of leadership.  Rather this is - like all change - an opportunity for innovation and growth.  We are lucky to already have a strong leadership team at Stone Creek, with a complimentary set of skills that does not rely too heavily on any one individual.  We also have a dedicated and professional expert faculty team that includes many teachers who demonstrate the true values of leadership every day.  A dedicated group of parents and professionals within the larger community have worked tirelessly for years to create the solid foundation of governance and financial policy to ensure the ongoing success and continued growth of Stone Creek.

The Stone Creek Board of Directors will be meeting on Wednesday evening and will convene a hiring committee consisting of John Brendza, former Stone Creek Head of School and former superintendent of Eagle county Schools along with two board members, two teachers, and two parents.  We will be carefully considering all qualified candidates for this position, and we know we already have the benefit of an incredibly talented team!  Please email board@stonecreekschool.org if you would like to be involved in this process.
