Here's what you need to know for the week of May 17:

  • CC did not send any notifications about positive COVID-19 test results during the week of May 10. All positive test result notifications are available here. All known CC cases, regardless of whether exposure occurred at CC, appear on the CC COVID-19 dashboard
  • CC announced campus protocols for Summer 2021
  • Updated CDC mask guidance; no change to college protocols (see below).

Masks Still Required on Campus

Despite the new CDC masking guidance, CC’s mask requirement continues for now. Students, faculty, and staff should continue to wear masks indoors and outdoors on campus, maintain social distancing, wash hands frequently, and stay home if they are sick. Protocols for our two Commencement ceremonies on May 23 and May 30 also remain the same. Thank you for continuing to keep our campus as safe as possible.

The Scientific Advisory Group has answered your vaccine-related questions. Access CC’s updated COVID-19 FAQs here and submit your questions to covid19@coloradocollege.edu

FDA Emergency Authorization of Pfizer
Vaccine to Adolescents

The FDA has given emergency authorization for the use of Pfizer vaccine in adolescents age 12- 15, after approval of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Colorado’s state epidemiologist, Dr. Rachel Herlihy, spoke recently on the efficacy of the Pfizer trial, sharing that Pfizer’s robust clinical trials will help ensure safety. The trial showed 100% efficacy in this age group; none of the volunteers went on to contract COVID-19. The state’s vaccine provider map includes information on which vaccine each location is administering. All of the state’s Community Vaccination Sites offer the Pfizer vaccine, and most do not require an appointment.

On-Campus Protocols for Summer 2021

Summer Session starts June 2, more than 540 students are enrolled, and vaccinations are increasingly available, therefore, CC plans to adjust campus COVID protocols starting June 1. All students living on campus and locally off campus, even if they are not coming to campus, and even if they are vaccinated, must participate in weekly testing. Make your appointment here. Fully vaccinated students will not need to observe a period of enhanced social distancing upon arrival; unvaccinated students will have a seven-day enhanced social distancing process. All regular risk-mitigation measures and classroom protocols will remain in place. Read the full announcement

Guidance for Talking with Your Health-Care Provider

Where is the nearest pharmacy? Do you know your own medical history? These questions and others are discussed in this article from the University of Michigan, which may help students and parents be better prepared and informed about health-care needs away from home.

Revised System for Student Testing Notifications

Students: The way you’re notified for your weekly COVID-19 test is changing. CC is rolling out a new, more efficient system to administer student COVID-19 testing. Look for email invitations from wellness@coloradocollege.edu or lpetro@coloradocollege.edu and follow the link included in the email to schedule appointments at the Student Health Center. Notifications will now include your first and last name as well. Thank you for participating in CC’s COVID-19 testing process and helping reduce the risk to our community.

Check Out CC COVID Dashboard

The CC COVID-19 dashboard shows all known CC community cases, including our local off-campus students and employees. It provides quick access to COVID-19 metrics on campus and in the El Paso County community, including COVID-19 exposure, testing, and positive test results. For questions regarding this data, please contact Ben Moffitt in the Office of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness. We send a notification when an individual who receives a positive COVID-19 test result has been on campus within their contagious timeframe and may have been in contact with others on campus.

Resources for You
