Roots & Belonging
Join us for a conversation about Washington API's Past, Now, and Future on Friday, May 21 at 12-1pm!

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The month-long celebration is a chance to acknowledge the historic achievements of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

This year’s celebration is, in a lot of ways, more significant because of the rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans. Yet, for many, these are nothing new.  Let us take some time to learn about what APIs have experienced in the past, how we are doing, and what the community can do in the future.

Covid-19 Need Survey
We need your help!

As a community partner with the Department of Health (DOH) we are supporting the COVID-19 vaccine communication efforts by conducting this survey to identify ways to help support our community (including possibly holding a pop-up vaccination clinic).

Please fill out the survey here and let us know if anyone you know may need help with accessing the current vaccination information.

The Latest in Vaccine News
Here is an update on the developments around the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and the ability for it to be distributed to children ages 12-15. The data shows a high degree of efficacy (100% effective) and safety of the vaccine in this age group, which was the first step to making the vaccine available to this age group in Washington.

Emergency Broadband Benefits
The Emergency Broadband Benefit is a temporary FCC program that offers eligible households a monthly discount of up to $50 on broadband service and associated equipment rentals or up to $75 on Tribal lands. The EBB also offers a one time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer.

The Emergency Broadband Benefit, funded by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), launched on Wednesday to connect families and enable affordable access to education, work, telemedicine, and all aspects of basic life which now occur online. In order to ensure the program is effectively promoted, available, and accessible, Advancing Justice — AAJC, the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans, and OCA-Asian Pacific Advocates have partnered to provide training for Community Partners and ethnic media on the basics of the EBB!

Individuals and organizations can register for the Community Partner training (Tuesday, May 18 at 2pm ET) or the ethnic media briefing (Friday, May 21 at 12pm ET) here
Leadership Development Conference
What makes a leader? How does one sharpen and develop their leadership skills? APIC-SPS is organizing a Leadership Development Conference to discuss just this. We envision this will be an event to help our future and current community leaders learn or share the skills and experience people need to be successful leaders. This event will bring together community representatives for an opportunity to discuss what we need for our future leaders and for those who inspire to be leaders to network and learn from each other.

This will be a 2-part leadership development series:
  • June 12th - Civic Engagement
  • September 25th - Leadership Skills Conference
