Sunday Programs Planned at Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site
Fort Abercrombie, N.D. – Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site will open May 29 with summer hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Labor Day, Sept. 6.
On opening day, visitors can experience historical military training drills from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. by the 5th Minnesota Infantry Company D reenactment unit. The 5th Minnesota Infantry Company D portrays the life and times of soldiers serving at the fort during the battles and siege of Fort Abercrombie in 1862. The public is welcome to participate in the drills to learn about life at the fort from 1858 to 1877. The gallery, bookstore, and gift shop will be open. Educational guided tours of the site will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A concert featuring the Paul and Kara Fladland Band will be held Sunday, June 6, 2-3:30 p.m., with music that includes country, folk, gospel, bluegrass, jazz, doo-wop, and classics from the past. This concert is co-sponsored by the Friends of Fort Abercrombie.
"History of Fort Abercrombie," a presentation by historical researcher John Beving, will kick off Fort Abercrombie's Sunday History Program series on June 20 at 2 p.m. Other events planned for the summer include additional Sunday History Programs, a Kite Flying Weekend, and Aber Days programs. All events are free and open to the public.
Fort Abercrombie is a state historic site managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Summer hours are daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $3 for youth.
