Work Continues on Township Utility Projects

Work continues this spring on two water main extension projects at Wolven Avenue and 11 Mile Road in Algoma Township and on Herrington Avenue south of Chandler Drive in Plainfield. This is part of the Township’s effort to extend municipal water to approximately 250 homes affected by PFAS contamination in the groundwater this year.

Separate from the water main extension work, the pressure conversion project on Five Mile Road in Plainfield is underway. Crews will replace the water main and increase water pressure for homes in the area.

Township to Host Virtual Memorial Day Commemoration

For the second year in a row, Plainfield Township will transform its traditional Memorial Day event into a virtual commemoration.

The virtual commemoration will be available beginning at noon Friday, May 28 on the Township’s Facebook and YouTube pages as well as plainfieldmi.org. The taped event will feature members of the Township’s Board of Trustees and guest speaker Tracey Nelson of the Grand Rapids Homes for Veterans who will honor military personnel who have died in service to the country.

The Township traditionally hosts an evening of events at Veterans Memorial Park, at the intersection of Jupiter and Belmont avenues, to honor fallen veterans with music, a wreath laying and a salute from the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 258.

This year’s event is again virtual to help keep community members healthy and safe during the pandemic.
Helicopters Flying Near Power Lines for Inspections

ITC Michigan began inspecting its high-voltage electricity transmission structures and lines in Kent County today and will continue through May 25, which means helicopters will fly low near power lines.

The helicopters are flown low so crews can look for damaged or worn equipment and any vegetation that may create a hazard. Workers will inspect steel towers, wood poles, wires, insulators and other equipment during these flights.
