Knit in Public Event at Former Governors' Mansion State Historic Site
BISMARCK, N.D. – Local fiber artists will gather for a public knitting event at the Former Governors’ Mansion State Historic Site on Saturday, June 12, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The mansion is located at 320 East Ave. B in Bismarck. Knitters, crocheters, spinners, and other fiber artists are welcome to participate and enjoy a day of socializing and crafting.
The event is part of an international event called World Wide Knit in Public Day (WWKiP). It provides an opportunity for like-minded crafters to share techniques, show off their skills, and learn about charitable opportunities. Participants are asked to come to the east lawn and bring their own lawn chair or blanket. In the event of inclement weather, socially distanced chairs will be set up inside the mansion, and mask-wearing is recommended.
WWKiP Day began in 2005 and is the largest knitter-run event in the world with local gatherings organized by volunteers. For more information on the Bismarck event, contact Beth Campbell at 701.328.2674 or bcampbell@nd.gov.
The Former Governors’ Mansion is a state historic site managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Summer hours are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday, noon-4 p.m. The mansion will also be open to the general public during the Knit in Public event.
