Freyberg Walking Bus - Thank you Esmerelda!

Our wonderful Walking Bus helper - Esmerelda - has, after 10 years, informed us that she will no longer be available to offer this wonderful service to our students who walk from Duncan Ave to Freyberg school.  The Walking Bus service she offered has been a wonderful addition to our school. We were super appreciative of her offer to help even though her youngest daughter left Freyberg some 3 years ago.  Esmerelda will be sadly missed by us all!

If you are interested in starting a Walking Bus route or have any questions about this service please feel free to come along to a short meeting on Wednesday 9th June and chat with our school co-ordinator.
Freyberg Wheels / Mufti Day

Wednesday 26th May

Wear something bright and colourful and bring your scooters, skateboards, roller skates, dolls prams or even remote control cars to school on this day. Remember to bring a helmet if you are using a scooter or skateboard.  Unfortunately we have a NO BIKES rule.......limited room on the courts makes this a difficult option and the safety of our students is paramount.

To make this day extra special at lunchtime we will be having a skateboard demonstration from the Young Guns Skate School who visited us last week.  Exciting times and maybe a chance to checkout some new tricks!!!!

Looking forward to a great day!
This term classes have been given the opportunity to take part in the HELL Pizza Reading Challenge, which is being run in conjunction with the 2021 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.

The Hell Pizza Reading Challenge is a highly successful programme that gets kids reading and enjoying the pleasures of books with free pizza rewards.

Classes participating have now received their "pizza wheels"  and every time a student finishes a book, the wheel gets clicked off. Once complete the wheel requires a school authorisation stamp (available from the office) on the reverse of the wheel enabling them to redeem their free pizza.

A great reading challenge with tasty rewards!
A reminder from the school office to all of our whānau members...

All children are required to be at school by the school bell at 8.55 a.m.  The teachers first task of the day is to take the school roll and account for all students attending.  This is an important safety issue and is their first priority.  If your children are late for any reason please send them to the school office where a late slip is noted and the school roll is then amended.

If your child is absent for any reason the school office must be notified by either.....

contacting the school office on 838 9664 and talking to Juliette/Sharon/Rachael who are always happy to hear from you!
...or leaving a message on the school phone (messages can be left 24/7)
...or by texting 027 364 7271
...or using the absence button on the school app on your mobile.

It has been brought to our attention that explanations for absence are being sent direct to the class teacher via seesaw/google classroom/email.  If the teacher is absent due to sickness, attending an offsite course, assisting on a trip, out of their class on classroom release etc, these messages are not being passed on.  Please contact the office directly to report any absences.

If you are collecting your child from the class during the school day for an appointment etc please do not go directly to your child's classroom.  All students are required to have a "permission to leave slip" which will be approved through the school office.  No child will be released from any staff member without this.

If you are delivering lunch, wishing to administer medicine or wish to give your child a message please do not go directly to the classroom.  Please see the office and your child will be located and brought to the office to met you.  Alternatively the lunch/message will be passed onto your child on your behalf.

We ask that no parents/caregivers be onsite unless removing their child/children with an approved "permission to leave slip" during the morning tea and lunchtime breaks. Parent helpers who are staying for a period of time during the school day are required to sign in at the office and receive a visitors badge.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.
We are excited to share the news that Freyberg Community School will be welcoming the NZ ice skate tour to our school hall! This will be taking place on the night of Monday the 6th of September. We sold out of tickets last week so the ice skate tour have very kindly added on earlier time slots which are selling out fast - so get in quick. The school receives 20% of takings after the event so it is a great fundraiser for us! All students will receive an ice skating lesson during school time so it's a great opportunity for them to show off their new skills.

Freyberg Netball Players of the Day

Freyberg Blue - 3rd Grading Game - Leah Davids
Freyberg Blue - 4th Grading Game - Tony Neal

For those who play Thursday netball, your first game is on Thursday 27th May.  Netball uniforms are now ready for collection from the school office.
Wishing you all the best for your games over the upcoming season!

Again we would like to express our thanks to those parents who have put their hands up and offered to volunteer their precious time to coach and manage our Freyberg netball teams. We are very appreciative of your support!

We are making these available to all children in Year 4 to 6 classes, on an optional basis this year.  All of the Australian School Competitions provide an opportunity for all students to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external assessment situation.

Competitions are available in the following areas:
Digital Technologies, Science, Writing, English, Mathematics and Spelling.

Each child who sits the examination will receive a certificate and a detailed results letter. Cost for all online exams are $18.50 per subject.  Please note that exams will only go ahead if we have 3 or more students wishing to attend a particular subject.

Should you require further information and would like an exam registration slip please ring the office.

If your child's exam does not go ahead any money paid will be refunded.  Payment can be made direct to the schools bank account  as follows: 12-3071-0231432-00. Please note your child's name and ICAS as a reference.

Last day for all registrations is Friday 9th July.

Brand new girls black T-bar school shoes & swimming goggles - white and pink - named Riley Carseldine
Size 6 polo shirt - named Elijah Sila
Size 10 polar fleece jacket - named Catherine Duong - misplaced in Room 15

The stress created for students/parents/staff due to the loss of items could be avoided if all items were clearly named.  If you need assistance with naming any items office staff are more than happy to assist.

This week we have again added to quite a collection of drink bottles / toys and precious belongings being brought to school. Students are encouraged not to bring precious treasures as the distress caused with them being lost/misplaced is a problem which could be prevented if these toys in particular were kept at home.  If you think any of the pictured items belong to your child please give the office a call and we will gladly return them.
