On Wednesday May 12, the Air Pollution Control Division (APCD) released draft rule language about the proposed regulation, Employee Traffic Reduction Program (ETRP).  Smart Commute staff has been busy for months as a key stakeholder, and staff is prioritizing that all ETRP-affected organizations understand the rule, and have an opportunity to ask questions and voice concerns.

ETRP is complex.  We want to ensure that all organizations are able to understand this proposed regulation, and prepare for what will be required if it is approved in August.  With that in mind, Smart Commute is scheduling 30-minute ETRP Briefings with any organization that is interested in learning more.

The initial Hearing for the ETRP Regulation (technically Air Quality Control Commission "Regulation 22, Part B.III."), will occur on May 20 with the Air Quality Control Commission (AQCC), and will be available virtually to those that pre-register (although voiced public comment will not be collected in the record). The AQCC is an appointed board, and has the authority to enact this proposed regulation, which will be overseen by the APCD at the state level. The best way to influence this rule making is to work collaboratively with Smart Commute and other north area organizations.

Recently, RTD released a list of six guiding principles which will inform how RTD will provide service in the future.  These guiding principles were an outcome from the Reimagine RTD Process, which kicked off in 2019.

RTD is interested in feedback from transit riders and the general public.  Learn more, and provide feedback, on the Reimagine RTD page.

Smart Commute has received a grant from the Colorado Energy Office to provide “loan-to-own” electric bikes (eBikes) and accessories for low-income workers.

The Program is a part of the State’s Can Do Colorado Community Challenge to demonstrate how eBikes are a safe, healthy, and convenient way to take essential trips around town.  Applicants must live in Adams or Broomfield County, meet income qualifications, and work within Smart Commute’s service area.

Employers at 144th & I-25 interested in the Program, should contact Jeanne Shreve, eBikes Program Manager, at 720.263.0106.
Coming up Saturday, June 5, another great opportunity to get on your bike and ride in Broomfield.  With free tune ups, bike decorating, music and food trucks, and more, this is one more great way to get on a bike through Bike to Summer!

On April 24, over a dozen people came out in the beautiful weather to bike in the Broomfield Full Moon Bike Ride, which concluded Sustainable Broomfield's Earth Week celebration (with over 100 participants).  One rider (pictured above) showed off his e-bike, which makes it easier for him to go by bike.  Broomfield's Full Moon Bike Ride was the first event for a jam-packed lineup of events with Bike to Summer.

Distractions are normal. Manage to outcomes and don’t worry about it. We encourage you to allow your employees some grace to deal with life’s interruptions, especially now. Ultimately, though, the success or failure of telework rests with management strategies. If your team is not showing up, if they let their teammates down, and if they are failing to deliver on results, it is time for a supervisory heart-to-heart. In all truth it is easy to confirm that an employee is failing when their clearly defined and communicated workplan goes undone. Make sure you have trained and supported your employees to do the work you are requesting, and if results do not follow make the decisions you must.
