HOPE SF RESIDENTS HAVE MUCH TO CELEBRATE AS THE CITY RE-OPENS

Sunnydale's 23rd annual Family Day on June 5 was a beautiful event filled with community love, great food, and family fun! Special thanks to Drew Jenkins and Mrs. Jackson for their commitment to this annual community celebration.

MEET ERIC SHAW, ACTING DIRECTOR OF HOPE SF

As the Director of the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD), I am delighted to fill the role of Acting Director of HOPE SF and work closely with the HOPE SF team. My priorities while we search for the next director of HOPE SF are to leverage MOHCD's expertise and its vast affordable housing and services portfolio, along with Mayor Breed's bold Dream Keeper initiative, which has redirected $120 million from law enforcement to support San Francisco's Black and African American communities over the next two years.

I am deeply grateful to the public-private Partnership for HOPE SF and the funders who have been part of its success for over ten years, supporting innovation and learning, and amplifying the voices of residents.

HOPE SF remains a top priority for Mayor Breed, and I am excited to lead this work together with residents, developers, community organizations, City agencies, and funders who are committed to San Francisco’s vision of creating thriving mixed-income communities without displacement.

HOPE SF SMALL GRANTS PROGRAM SUPPORTS RESIDENT-LED PROJECTS

Residents at Alice Griffith participate in their first Soul Seated Journey Workshop.

Soul Seated Journey, a program of the Tzu Chi Foundation, provides leadership development and wellness support for youth at Alice Griffith. Through this program, youth have the space to discover their authentic and innate power to create meaningful change in themselves, their communities, and the world.
Us 4 Us is a youth program led by Alice Griffith community leader and former resident, Damien Posey. Youth interns build skills and benefit from mentorship, educational resources, peer-to-peer support, and exposure to community service and entrepreneurship.

Sunnydale resident and community health worker, Lajanae Thompson, knows exactly what women in her community need. Her Loyal Butterflies wellness program empowers women of all ages through holistic wellness workshops and support groups.

Potrero Hill resident and community healer, Monica Ferrey, holds space for residents to heal right in the Annex! Having to navigate trauma is not an easy task. Having a community to unpack trauma together allows residents to feel supported as they heal.

DESPITE A CHALLENGING YEAR, HOPE SF STUDENTS THRIVED IN EDUCATION WITH COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Esiah Thompson lives in HOPE SF’s Potrero Hill community. In his graduation speech at Starr King Elementary School, he expressed his hopes and dreams for a better future for himself and his family.
