Digital Media Awards Africa 2021 // 25 May // The annual awards will recognise publishers who have delivered unique and original digital media projects in the last 12 months. These will range from new approaches to digital subscriptions, and impactful native advertising campaigns.
The Nyabola Prize for Science Fiction 2021 in Kiswahili // 31 May // The Nyabola Prize for Science Fiction is an initiative of the Mabati-Cornell Kiswahili Prize, open to writers aged between 18 and 35, writing science and speculative fiction in Swahili. The language project also includes a language prize, designed and aimed at popularising and promoting “vocabulary for technology and digital rights, in order to empower citizens in Kiswahili-speaking communities to participate in broader conversations on the issues.”
Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism // 31 May // The Kurt Schork Memorial Fund (KSMF) is now accepting submissions for its 2021 awards in international journalism. The fund aims to support freelancers and local reporters whose work is often poorly paid, mostly unsung and all too often fraught with danger. The 19th annual call for awards is now split into three categories: Local reporter, freelancer and news fixer. Each award is for $5,000 and will be presented at a prestigious ceremony in London in late September 2021.
