Welcome to the Streatham & Marlborough Sweep (SMS)
Despite the weather, it's been amazing to get so many games organised -  over 30 in the last week across all sections! Well done to the fixture secretaries, Chris and Graham for all their hard work here.
Updated Covid Guidance
As of 17 May, we entered Step 3 of the Government Roadmap out of Lockdown. We are currently digesting the 31 page document (!) produced by the ECB and how we apply this so the previous Step 2 conditions at the club remain in force for this weekend. This means no showering / changing facilities will be available, BYO tea and limited pavilion access.
Senior Roundup
The Men's 6th XI stole the show this week with a stunning chase against Beckenham. Having inserted their opponents on a damp Mayow Park wicket, Beckenham rattled to 204-3 from a reduced 30 overs. A tall order, for some... but not Tony Hewitt who notched his maiden club hundred (114*) with some classical off-side strokeplay and murderous intent outside leg. Supported in the main by Karthik Herath (45), the M6s reached their target off 26 overs. It's also worth noting Viren Patel (5-0-9-0) who was the only bowler on either side to exert any control during this run-fest. The link above also includes the incomparable tones of Laurie with a full match report contained at the bottom.

The Men's 1st XI scored ten from the final over to secure a tie against Old Rutlishians. In a stop start game, the M1s reduced Ruts to 6-4 before recovering to 133ao on a difficult surface. The chase was proceeding steadily before a triple wicket maiden changed the game. Jake Oakes and Oli Nicholls keeping their heads to scramble the runs at the death.
The Men's 2s fell 19 runs short hosting Cheam where again a flurry off middle order wickets foiled a promising run chase. Vanderpant (53) the major contributor. Kevin McDelling made an impressive debut for the M3s with 54* in their 150 all out against Malden Wanderers, unfortunately a total that wasn't enough. The M4s looked on target for a victory until a 7th wicket partnership took Merstham to victory. The Men's Kent 5s were called off but the Surrey 5s did complete a rain affected game falling 20 short. Plenty of new faces in the friendly side who had a close game versus Team Mitcham, Uttam Sharma starring with the ball (8-2-20-4).

The weather played havoc with Sunday's fixtures as the Women's and Men's friendly sides were unable to complete their fixtures.

Doesn't look much better this week so keep an eye on your phones and try to resist the temptation to play a rain card!

Junior Roundup
Abandoned (hopefully to be rescheduled): 2 games
Wins: 6
Losses: 5

Two losses on Friday were followed by three wins on Sat, with the U8B team also beating Croydon U7s in a friendly.

Sunday was mixed bag. The U12s friendly and U13s league game both had to be abandoned, hopefully to be rescheduled. The U13s did, however, get their Kent league season off to a great start by beating OD CUACO on Wed evening.

Both Girls squads had tough games against longer-established girls' sections.

The U15s (who didn't actually win by 10 wickets as shown - scorecard yet to be uploaded by the home team) emerged victorious in a tight match against by Battersea Ironsides, winning by about a dozen runs.

The Boys U11s, meanwhile, kept up their stunning opening run to the season - this time nudging the margin of victory into three figures.

Great to see so many games happening in spite of the challenging conditions.
Jake Oakes leads the Fantasy SMCC Cricket League with 703 point followed closely by Jason James (696) and Sarah Clark (685). There's a long way to go...

Week 2 MVP was Tony Hewitt with his 114 not out in a winning cause against Beckenham. Well done Tony!
