WALI Update: Funding Now Available for Youth Employment Program

The federal government has re-opened the Youth Employment and Skills Program (YESP). This is agriculture-specific funding to offset costs related to hiring young Canadians between the ages of 15 and 30.

This Canada-wide program provides a wage subsidy to employers who hire youth for agricultural jobs. The program offers support for 50% of wages to a maximum of $14,000.

Employers can apply on or after May 5, 2021, for their project to be considered. Projects may start retroactively as early as April 15, 2021.

It is recommended that employers apply as soon as possible if interested in pursuing this program. Last year the program saw a very high uptake and funding was allocated quickly. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis as long as funds are available.
