At our last gathering of the year, I usually bless students who are graduating with the following prayer:

Go out into the world in peace. Be of good courage.
Hold to what is good. Return no one evil for evil.
Strengthen the faint hearted. Support the weak.
Help the suffering. Honor all people.
Love and serve our God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Finals are wrapped up and we celebrated commencement weekend. You are now most likely going out into the world in some way. Perhaps it’s just for the summer, for an internship or job, and you’ll be back on campus in the fall. Or perhaps it is forever, and your time in college is ending.

During finals week, I usually get to say goodbye to students one by one, as you stop by the student center for one more cup of coffee, or a triumphant hug from a friend. I always cherish the chance to notice and give thanks for each person who comes through our doors, and for the community that we’ve formed together. This year, because of covid, I am missing seeing you and saying goodbye.

But even though I won’t see you in person, my prayers go with you. Go out into the world in peace. Be of good courage. I know that you will be agents of goodness, honor, and service to those you meet, because I’ve seen it in you at LCM. Thanks for being a part of this community.

May God bless you until we see one another again. Have a wonderful summer!

In Christ,
