AIDS/COVID: Tale of 2 pandemics and the role of statisticians
 
One thing that the AIDS and COVID-19 have in common is the mobilization of scientific resources. Statisticians have been in the forefront of scientists working to understand transmission dynamics, determine prognostic factors, and develop optimal designs to assess therapeutics and vaccines.

Per a què serveix l'estadística?

El GRBIO posarà en marxa una iniciativa de divulgació adreçada al professorat de secundària amb l’objectiu d’apropar el món de l’estadística al conjunt de la societat. Conxita Arenas, Núria Pérez i Lupe Gómez oferiran recursos per acostar aquesta disciplina als estudiants d’ESO i batxillerat, i donar a conèixer la seva relació i rellevància en el nostre dia a dia. Nou article publicat al GRBIO!

En Daniel Fernández amb altres investigadors ha publicat l'article Social network size, loneliness, physical functioning and depressive symptoms among older adults a la revista International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry. L’objectiu d'aquest treball és analitzar les relacions recíproques que podrien existir entre els 4 factors mencionats en el títol per aclarir els possibles efectes mediadors entre ells. Moltes felicitats!!!

Jornada Florence Nigthingale (FME-UPC)

El passat dimecres, 12 de maig va haver-hi la Jornada Florence Nigthingale a la FME amb les ponencies de Altea Lorenzo, Montse Vergara, Clara Prats i Gerard Giménez. Si te les has perdut, el vídeo està disponible al canal de Youtube de l'FME. Per si et quedes amb ganes de saber-ne més, Rtve té una sèrie de documentals relacionats amb la Florence Nigthingale.

Call for papers: sports analytics
There is a new call for papers on Sports Analytics Within Sports Economics And Management. The sports economy seeks to optimize the management of sports entities and companies. In this special issue, authors are invited to submit empirical or theoretical papers focusing on:
a)     the use of statistical methods in the phenomenon of “Sports Analytics”
b)     the use of computer tools to collect information,
that help to evaluate the performance of players, teams and organizations.

Deadline: Nov. 30

Celebracions 12 de maig
El 12 de maig va ser el dia de la dona en les matemà-tiques celebrat en honor a Maryam Mirzakhani, una de les grans matemàtiques del nostre temps, guanyadora de la medalla Fields el 2014. Aquest mateix dia es celebra el dia de la infermeria i de la dona en l'estadística i tots dos pel mateix motiu: l'aniversari el naixement de Florence Nightingale. Finalment, però no menys important, també es celebra el dia de les matemàtiques escolars en honor a Pere Puig Adam, també nascut aquest dia.
