FROM THE COUNCIL PRESIDENT
President David Mead Reports from 2021 Annual General Meeting

On Thursday 15 April, the ICOYC had another first: our first virtual Annual General Meeting, hosted on Zoom. Of our 44 Member Clubs, 31 were in attendance, which was a terrific turnout.

At the AGM, three new Directors were elected by the Members and I am delighted to welcome to the Board Andreas Christiansen (NRV-Hamburg, Germany), Robert Kottler (Southern Yacht Club–New Orleans, USA) and Alan Stovell (Royal Vancouver Yacht Club–Vancouver, Canada). These individuals will bring additional strength to our Board and I look forward to working with them.

I must also sincerely thank two Directors who stood down, having completed four years on the Board: Graham Rose (Royal Natal Yacht Club–Durbin, South Africa) and Godwin Zammit (Royal Malta Yacht Club- Ta' Xbiex, Malta).

The Members also voted to approve the appointment of Grant Thornton (Royal Canadian Yacht Club–Toronto, Canada) as our Public Accountant to carry out the annual financial review of the year-end accounts, subject to Board approval of the engagement fee.

We formally welcomed our first Member from South America, Yacht Club Punta del Este (Maldonado, Uruguay), and we look forward to meeting their officers and members at the European Regional Conference to be held at Real Club De Barcelona in October, providing travel to Spain is allowed. We also welcomed back Member Club Royal Thames Yacht Club (London, England), who rejoined in October 2020.

Our Membership Committee chaired by Gero Brugmann (NRV–Hamburg) continues to hold discussions with potential new Member Clubs and we hope to be able to make some announcements in the near future. Our new website is up and running, so visit regularly for such announcements. Virtually every Member Club has now appointed a Communications Correspondent who will forward interesting news from their Clubs to the webmaster on a regular basis (events, results, invitations, club news in fact anything newsworthy) so that we can actively exchange information between our Members.

Whether you are racing, cruising, coaching or enjoying the camaraderie with fellow members in our wonderful clubhouses around the world, enjoy what we love doing, have fun and stay safe.

David Mead
President
