May Newsletter:
Healing Happens Here

The BeaLine (YouTube video)

Bea Black, CEO

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. One of the things I do to keep mentally healthy is to get out in nature, especially during this time of year. Getting out in nature and enjoying the beauty is a panacea for me. Please know that if you are struggling with any mental health issues that relate to the issues of sexual assault, domestic abuse, or domestic violence, we are here to help. You are not alone. Please call our 24-hour hotline: 208.343.7025. We have clinicians that are specially trained and are ready to help.

In February we switched to one email a month for the WCA.

Putting Words to our Experiences: Languishing

Jenn Johnson, LMSW

Over the past year, it may seem like you have heard a lot more “meh” “blah” or “fine” responses to the simple question of “how are you?” Maybe you’ve noticed yourself struggling to find motivation, having difficulty concentrating, or turning to TV and social media more than you’d prefer.

May's pick is The Smallest Lights in the Universe by Sara Seager.
Sara Seager has always been in love with the stars: so many lights in the sky, so much possibility. Now a pioneering planetary scientist, she searches for exoplanets—especially that distant, elusive world that sustains life. But with the unexpected death of Seager’s husband, the purpose of her own life becomes hard for her to see. Suddenly, at forty, she is a widow and the single mother of two young boys. For the first time, she feels alone in the universe.

Corporate Pillar Spotlight: Albertsons

We are so appreciative of Albertsons Companies’ generous Corporate Pillars sponsorship of the WCA’s clients and our work in the community. Albertsons is also a remarkable in-kind sponsor of items donated for the women’s and children’s essential needs at the WCA’s shelter campus.

Poster Print-outs Available

Another way we reach vulnerable people is through posters that can be displayed in public bathrooms. We recently heard from Albertson’s corporate offices that they have these posters displayed in their women’s and men’s restrooms to reach people who may need our services.

Click here for a link to print posters if you know of somewhere that could benefit!
