Deer Valley road project

RCSCW backing the blue with Griffith Blue Heart
On Sunday, June 6, the Rec Centers will be teaming up with the Griffith Blue Heart team to help support their services in reality-based lessons learned in the field as first responders and first-hand cardiac arrest survival.
Griffith Blue Heart offers one-of-a-kind services and training designed to increase emergency cardiac survival by outfitting, instructing, and inspiring our fastest first responders and peace officers.
This is a private training that will be held at the R.H. Johnson Recreation Center near the Lecture Hall. You may see a select group of men and women working in specific scenarios to help build proper tactical training during cardiac situations. Certain areas will be blocked off such as the parking lot, Great Lawn, and breezeway. Spectators will not be allowed but the Rec Centers wanted to share this information with the community, so you are informed on the training aspect and understand that this is not a real life situation during this time.
If you would like to learn more on Griffith Blue Heart and learn more about who they are, please feel free to visit their website.

Quilt display for May 2021
Come by the library and see the newest quilt titled "The Gathering" by Linda Gagnon.
Linda made her “The Gathering” quilt based on the pattern designed by Barbara Persing. She first saw this pattern’s sample quilt at the Rusty Barn Show in January of 2019. It reminded Linda of all the quail in Sun City West. The colorful fabrics really drew her in, so she used similar fabrics from her ‘stash.’
The quilt is machine appliqued and took Linda approximately six weeks to piece the quilt top. She later asked Cindy Margan to do the long-arm machine quilting; Linda indicated that it took several months to get the quilt back from the long-armer, well worth the wait! Linda hangs her “The Gathering” quilt in her home in the spring time because it’s bright, cheerful and makes her happy!
Linda started quilting in 1997 after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma as she wanted to leave each of her immediate family members a home-made memento in case she didn’t survive. Twenty-four years later, Linda has made each of them several quilts and looks forward to completing many more projects in the years ahead.
Linda is an active member of the Palo Verde Patchers quilt club. She finds the club very inspirational with many talented quilters who are encouraging and helpful – with members trying to help each other be the best that they can be. After all these years, she still learns something new nearly every day!
Checkout the Palo Verde Patcher’s website at patchers.scwclubs.com. The website provides general information about the club. The club room is now open at the Kuentz Rec Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
